A piston for an internal combustion engine, such as a high-pressure direct injection (HPDI) diesel/gas internal combustion engine. The piston has a piston recess, in particular an omega piston recess. The piston has a piston crown face which is provided so as to extend annularly about a centre axis (M) of the piston. The piston has a plurality of piston stages, which are provided so as to extend annularly about the centre axis (M) and which are arranged between the piston crown face and the piston recess. The piston geometry can lead to an increase of the degree of engine efficiency with a simultaneous reduction of the exhaust emissions.

A variable valve gear for an internal combustion engine of a motor vehicle has a cam carrier which is arranged on a camshaft in a manner which prevents relative rotation and allows axial movement between a first axial position and a second axial position and has a first cam and a second cam. The first cam is designed for a normal mode of the internal combustion engine, in which the first cam keeps a first exhaust valve open in the exhaust stroke. The second cam is designed for an engine braking mode of the internal combustion engine, in which the second cam initially keeps the first exhaust valve closed in the compression stroke and/or in the exhaust stroke and opens the first exhaust valve before reaching a top dead center of a piston movement.

A method for controlling a shift process of an automatic gearbox for a vehicle with an internal combustion engine as its engine, including specifying a shift strategy in a controller, by continuously predictively determining the behaviour of the engine following any shift process into a target gear on the basis of a current detected vehicle dynamic value, a current detected vehicle specific actual value, and/or a current detected engine specific actual value. The prediction results are taken into account and adapted shift thresholds are determined and specified as upshift thresholds or downshift thresholds for a fuel efficient shift. Method for controlling a shift process of an automatic gearbox and controller

A method for cold start pre-warming of a pressure-charged internal combustion engine and/or of an exhaust gas aftertreatment device of a internal combustion engine, includes arranging a cold-starting aid in the intake duct for warming the charge air while the engine is stationary. The internal combustion engine has at least one working cylinder with at least one inlet valve and at least one outlet valve and further includes a device for setting a valve position. The internal combustion engine can be pressure-charged by a pressure-charging device operable by an electric motor. In the method, after detection of a cold start of the internal combustion engine: the cold-starting aid is activated while the engine is stationary; electric-motor operation of the pressure-charging device is activated; and a valve overlap between at least one inlet valve and at least one outlet valve is set.
