Red decorations on substrates which can undergo decorative baking, such as glass, porcelain, ceramic and metal, can be produced using nanoporous aluminium oxide membranes according to the invention, the nanopores of which contain ligand-stabilized gold clusters. The membrane is applied to the substrate followed by baking, resulting in formation of the red color. Alternatively, the membrane can be converted into a red membrane by thermolysis, after which the membrane is employed for production of the decoration. The membranes according to the invention can be obtained by bringing a nanoporous Al,O,membrane into contact with a solution of a ligand-stabilized gold cluster, in particular one of the formula Au,L,X,, wherein L is a phosphane ligand and X is an anion.

The invention relates to spherical colored pigments having an average particle diameter of less than 10 .mu.m on the basis of an oxide, a mixed oxide or a silicate. The pigments are obtainable by means of spray-pyrolysis technology: a solution containing oxide-forming or silicate-forming metal compounds is converted into an aerosol and the latter is fed, preferably after predrying, to a pyrolysis reactor; the pigment is separated from the pyrolysis gas. The colored pigments according to the invention are suitable for the production of ceramic decorations and for the coloring of plastics, synthetic foils, fibers and also lacquers. By reason of the spherical shape, unusual technical application properties are achieved.

Spherical color pigments, process for their production and use thereof

The invention relates to pigments consisting of substantially spherical particles with a mean particle diameter of less than 10 .mu.m, on the basis of an oxidic or silicate substrate material with noble metal distributed extremely finely on and/or in the particles. Preferred pigments are purple-colored and are based on an oxide from the series SiO.sub.2, SnO.sub.2 and ZrO.sub.2 and gold as noble metal. The pigments are suitable for the production of ceramic decorations and for the dyeing of plastics, synthetic films and fibers as well as lacquers. Exceptional application properties are obtained by virtue of the spherical shape. The pigments are obtainable by a spray-pyrolysis process in which an aerosol consisting of a solution of at least one noble metal compound and an oxide- or silicate-forming precursor is subjected to pyrolysis; the pigment is separated from the pyrolysis gas.

Decorative preparations according to the invention for producing gold-containing decorations, in particular decorations on fireable substrates, contain as a source of gold a ligand-stabilized gold cluster or a ligand-stabilized gold colloid and also an organic binder and/or an inorganic component from the group consisting of glass frits, silicates, oxides and oxide/silicate precursors. The preferred source of gold is Au.sub.55 [(C.sub.2 H.sub.5).sub.2 P(m-C.sub.6 H.sub.4 SO.sub.3 Na)].sub.12 Cl.sub.6 or a gold colloid stabilized with the same phosphane. Bright gold, burnished gold and lustre preparations contain, in addition to the source of ligand-stabilized gold, an organic binder. A decorative preparation for purple decorations generally also contains, in addition to the decorative color consisting of the source of gold and the inorganic components, a medium consisting of an organic binder and a solvent. The decorative preparations are suitable either for producing ceramic decorations or for coloring plastics and lacquers.

Various organosulfur gold compounds and their use for the production of gold decorations are known. The invention relates to new organosulfur gold compounds, to a process for their production and to their use for the production of preparations for producing a gold decoration on firing-resistant substrates. The gold compounds according to the invention are obtainable from monogold (I) dimercaptosuccinic acid and compounds of similar structure by dissolution thereof in water in the presence of a base and precipitation by acidification and, if desired, repetition of the dissolving and precipitating steps. The gold compounds according to the invention are characterized by a gold content of 60 to 90% by weight, an atomic ratio of greater than 0.7 to 4. Preferred gold compounds are soluble in water and are suitable as a constituent of organic/aqueous and exclusively aqueous bright and burnished gold preparations for the decoration of glass, porcelain and ceramic.

Organosulfur gold compounds, a process for their production and their use

The invention relates to mononoble metal dithiolates, more particularly water-soluble monogold(I) dithiolates, to their production and to their use for the production of noblemetal-containing decorations on firing-resistant substrates. The mononoble metal dithiolates represent a new class of water-soluble thiolates for use in organic-aqueous and essentially purely aqueous noble metal preparations for decoration purposes. The invention relates to aqueous precious metal preparations and their use for manufacturing precious metal decorations. Precious metal preparations are known for the manufacture of precious metal decorations on the basis of one or more precious metals from the series gold, silver, platinum and palladium, which have an organic or organic/aqueous solvent system. There is a need for preparations which are essentially free from organic solvents. Preparations according to the invention contain a precious metal thiolate which has at least one functional group capable of salt formation, in the form of a water soluble salt, a water-soluble polymer organic binder, a surfactant in effective quantity and, as solvents, water and less than 2% by weight of organic solvents. Preferred preparations contain a gold thiolate of the formula Au--S--Q--COOH, Q standing for a divalent organic group optionally containing functional groups, polyvinylpyrrolidone and/or hydroxyethylcellulose as binders and as surfactant an alkylbenzene sulphonate or a polyether-polysiloxane copolymer in a quantity of 0.1 to 2.0% by weight. High-gloss, speck-free decorations can be produced by using the preparations which are essentially free from organic solvents.
