A binary-coded structure document, (e.g., in an EXI format which is based on a structure document designed in a text-based description language, such as XML), is provided with a binary-coded index document, which is based on a structural part of the structure document. A storage representation of the binary-coded index document is stored in a working storage unit of the device, and the binary-coded structure document is stored in a background storage unit assigned to the device. A processing operation or a request by at least one processing process is carried out by accessing the storage representation of the binary-coded index document via an object interface, and in certain examples, fragments of the binary-coded structure document are loaded into the working storage unit by the object interface. By carrying out processing operations on the binary-coded index document, faster request operations are facilitated in that specific requests may already be processed using the index document BCI without the involvement of the binary-coded structure document.

Device and method for processing a binary-coded structure document

A control layer automation device comprises a processor, one or more control layer applications, a database, a wireless interface, a device memory. Each control layer application is configured to perform a discrete set of automation functions. The database comprises a plurality of operator device identifiers and the wireless interface allows the one or more control layer applications to communicate with a plurality of operator devices via the plurality of operator device identifiers. The device memory comprises the one or more control layer applications. The control layer application manager is configured to manage execution of the one or more control layer applications on the processor.

A communication device includes a transceiver unit for receiving from a central installation a broadcast message containing information for initiating communication between the communication device and the central installation, and a control unit for selecting a hardware address for the communication device in response to the information contained in the broadcast message. The selected hardware address can be used for addressing the communication device for messages from the central installation. The transceiver unit is designed to communicate with the central installation using the selected hardware address for the duration of a session. The control unit is designed to delete the selected hardware address after the duration of the session has expired. Selecting a hardware address randomly and deleting the hardware address after the session has expired allows communication between the communication device and the central installation, while maintaining the identity of the communication device anonymous.

A method of executing apps on a production device in an automation environment includes storing a plurality of apps in a runtime environment of the production device. A metadata file is stored for each respective app included in the plurality of apps. The metadata file comprises an indication of a network interface that may be used for communication with the respective app by other apps, and an indication of one or more interface dependencies to other network interfaces corresponding to other apps. Prior to executing a particular app on the production device, an operation is performed to verify that each interface dependency associated with the particular app can be fulfilled by the plurality of apps.

Interfaces for connected software applications in automation environments

A device and method is provided that establishes a charging connection and a communication connection between a charging station and a vehicle, the vehicle having a first charging device and a first communication device, the charging station having a second charging device and a second communication device. The first charging device is positioned with respect to the second charging device in a way that energy for charging a battery of the vehicle is transmitted via the charging connection, and an orientation of the second communication device with respect to the first communication device, is such that the communication connection can carry out a wireless exchange of information in a way that reception of the information by a further communication device is prevented. The first communication device and the second communication device are configured in a way that the information is emitted and/or received by means of at least one communication unit.

In a method for communicating between a number of first services and a number of second services. The number of first services belongs to a service-oriented architecture, in which a respective first service is provided by messages based on a question-answer mechanism by a first protocol. The number of second services belongs to a data-based architecture, in which second services can be switched together by a second protocol. Method for communicating between a number of first services and a number of second services

In a method and a device for placing units, such as motes, for executing an application in a distributed system, a placement of the units by a service layer and a communication between the units by a communication layer are provided. One field of application is for example process automation, such as in industrial or building management installations. Such installations have sensors and actuators with communication interfaces. The method and the device allow the energy demand of the installation to be reduced. Communication is preferably performed wirelessly. Network management is for example conducted according to the wireless HART protocol.
