A device for stabilizing a workpiece, in particular a thin-walled workpiece mounted in a machine tool, comprises at least one base; and a plurality of stabilizing elements. The stabilizing elements protrude away from one surface of the base, wherein the stabilizing element comprises a cylinder and a rod arranged therein and the rod can be driven hydraulically to move in the axial direction of the stabilizing element such that the rod of at least two of the stabilizing elements can be brought into contact with one surface of the workpiece.

The machine tool has a machine bed having a first horizontal linear guide and a second horizontal linear guide arranged at right angles to the first linear guide. On the first linear guide is arranged, in an axially displaceable manner, a workpiece clamping fixture, which is swivelable about a swivel axis oriented parallel to the second linear guide and is rotatable about a rotation axis oriented at right angles to the swivel axis. On the second linear guide a toque motor driven swivel arm is axially displaceable, the swivel axis of which is arranged parallel to the first linear guide and which on its free end bears a tool spindle, the axis of which is oriented parallel to the first linear guide.

The brushing device contains a bundle of fiber rods (), which are arranged parallel to one another, and a protective sleeve (), which encloses the fiber rods. Once fiber rods () have become worn, the protective sleeve () is able to be axially adjusted, so that the free ends of the fiber rods () protrude beyond the protective sleeve () by a desired amount. Conventional positioning devices in which a body is displaceable in a plane and rotatable by three drives have the drawback that at least one of the drives is displaced together with the body, whereby these apparatus are relatively heavy and sluggish. In the case of the positioning device according to the invention, three straight guide elements, arranged radially, are rigidly connected to the body. Each guide element is accepted in a linear bearing in a longitudinally displaceable way, and each linear bearing is disposed on a separate rotor in a way pivotable about a pivot axis directed perpendicular to the plane. Through independent displacement of the linear bearings on a common circular path, the body can be shifted and rotated as desired in a region. This construction has the advantage that it is built simply and that it is able to execute quick and precise positioning movements in particular owing to small masses in motion.
