An apparatus for drawing-off a web-shaped product from a weaving machine in a drawing-off direction includes: at least one clamp carrier having clamps for the web-shaped product; a carrier frame apparatus on which the clamp carrier is guided; a drive arrangement by which the clamp carrier is drivable back and forth in a motion range; and a support system for the web-shaped product. The support system is arranged in an area between the apparatus side facing toward the weaving machine and the clamp carrier, within the carrier frame apparatus, in such a manner so that a sagging of the web-shaped product in this area is avoided or limited by the support system.

An apparatus has first and second coating nozzles for applying a liquid coating material respectively to two sides of a running flat material web, and has first and second rigid supply line sections for supplying the coating material to the respective coating nozzles. At least one of the coating nozzles is transferable from a working position to a maintenance position and back. In the working position, throughflow channels in the supply line sections communicate with one another to provide a throughflow of the coating material to the coating nozzles. When transferring at least one of the coating nozzles from the working position to the maintenance position, the rigid supply line sections are automatically moved relative to one another so that the throughflow channels therein are interrupted so as to interrupt the flow of the coating material to this coating nozzle.

A method and apparatus continuously monitor the functional condition of the successive bearings of the tenter clips or claws of a tenter chain as the bearings roll along a contact surface of the endless guide rail of a tentering machine. A sensing arrangement is integrated into the guide rail in the area of the contact surface thereof. The sensing arrangement senses a physical value indicative of the presence and condition of the respective bearing passing by the sensing arrangement. The sensing arrangement may include a pressurized air outlet and an adjacent pressure measuring channel connected to a pressure sensor to sense the back pressure created by a passing bearing. The sensing arrangement may alternatively include an electromagnetic eddy current sensor, or an optoelectronic light beam sensor.

In an apparatus for heat treating a material web that enters and exits the apparatus through respective gaps, an air cushion generating unit includes a slot nozzle through which a ventilator blows a laminar flow of air, which then flows laminarly along a convexly curved surface of the unit, to form a laminar air cushion which flows directly along the material web through one of the gaps, then expands outside of this gap, and is sucked back into the air cushion generating unit and recirculated through the slot nozzle. The laminar air cushion steadily holds and supports the material web so that the mechanical gap size can be reduced while reducing losses of hot process air and still avoiding physical contact with the material web.

A filter for filtering plastic melt prior to feeding the melt into an extruder nozzle, for example a thermoplastic film extruder nozzle, has preferably two filter housings for holding respective exchangeable filter cartridges. Both filter housings are articulated by hinges to a column mounting so that one filter housing can be serviced while the other filter housing with its filter cartridge is in a filtering position and vice versa. A single filter may be used alternatively. In both instances the column mounting may include at least one, preferably two, mounting columns.

In a method of drying a moist bulk material, such as sewage sludge, and treating the malodorous moisture-laden gas resulting from the drying process, the moisture-laden gas is introduced into waste water contained in a waste water clarifying basin of a waste water treatment plant. A system for carrying out the method includes a drying apparatus and at least one waste water basin of a waste water treatment plant, connected so that the moisture-laden gas emitted from the drying apparatus can be introduced, for example through an aerator, into the waste water. Thereby, the gas is cooled, demoisturized and deodorized, and moisture and volatile components are condensed and/or dissolved out of the gas into the waste water. The waste water is beneficially oxygenated, heated, and enriched with organic substances.

In the production of thin film that is extruded onto a cooling roller and then fed through a further treatment station such as stretching roller station, it may become necessary to stop the extrusion if a fault is present in the further treatment station. In order to avoid stopping the extrusion, a detour station with a roller set is positioned between the extrusion station and the further treatment station for detouring extruded film in response to a detected fault in any system component, except the extruder, whereby the extrusion can continue while the film is supplied to some other use while its supply to the further treatment station is interrupted. The detouring roller set includes at least one guide roller and a press-on roller that is automatically movable, for example by a piston cylinder device into a working position in response to a fault signal. When the fault signal is no longer present, the press-on roller is moved into a rest position for a continued supply of the extruded film into the further treatment station.

A cooling roller is rotatably mounted in a first lower bath and passes with its cylindrical wall through a second upper bath communicating with the first bath in such a way that a cooling medium level in the second bath is maintained at a higher elevation than a cooling medium level in the first bath that has a discharge positioned at an elevation for maintaining a desired cooling medium level in the first bath.

A guide rail for supporting the guide rollers of tenter clamps, in a tentering machine such as a film stretching machine, includes a plurality of spring steel bands clamped to a support member of the tentering machine by a clamping block and clamping bolt. To ensure that the guide rollers remain constantly in contact with the guide rail, the guide rail is elastically yieldable in the thickness direction to compensate for any tolerances or deviations in the arrangement or running operation of the guide rollers. At least one of the spring steel bands of the guide rail is spring-elastically deflectable in a thickness direction perpendicular to the lengthwise extension of the guide rail. In one embodiment, at least one of the spring steel bands is pre-curved to provide the necessary elastic spring characteristic. In another embodiment, a spacer member is arranged between initially flat spring steel bands to leave elastically deflectable free edge portions of the steel bands protruding beyond the spacer member and the clamping members. The guide rollers are mounted on the guide rail so as to partially pre-stress the elastically deflectable steel bands in the thickness direction.

Spring steel tapes are shaped with tape edge sections extending alongside a central tape section having a constant thickness, so that the thickness of the tape edge sections diminishes from the central section to the edges. Such tapes are combined in tape packages to form guide rails for tentering clamps, whereby a continuous contact between tentering clamp guide rollers and the guide rails is assured.

A mangle for circular knitted fabric has a circular spreader is combined with several mangling stations circularly arranged around the spreader for the removal of treatment liquor from tubular fabrics. In order to protect the fabric against excessive squeezing, an upper roller head is entirely avoided by confining the circular spreader in the horizontal direction exclusively by the mangling stations. The vertical support of the spreader is provided fully by the mangling stations if the mangling rollers are mounted in positions slanting to the vertical. If the mangling rollers are not mounted in slanted positions it is preferred that a lower roller head operated by a lifting mechanism assists the mangling rollers in supporting the spreader (8) vertically. In both instances an upper roller head becomes unnecessary.

A film or web stretcher particularly for thermoplastic film has a plurality of stretching cylinders, at least one or more of which cooperate with a press-on roller particularly at the inlet and/or outlet of the stretcher. A mounting arm (6) at each end of the stretcher cylinder permits the mounting of the press-on roller in such a way that the latter can be tilted through a limited angular range about the rotational axis of the stretching cylinder by a first drive. A second drive, such as a piston cylinder device adjusts the press-on roller relative to the stretching cylinder to thereby apply a press-on force. The first drive may, for example, be accomplished by a manually driven device for positioning the press-on roller and its cooperating components in any one of two end positions and in any position between the two end positions. The press-on roller may be directly mounted to the mounting arms (6) or through support brackets (9) to the arms (6).

Moist sewage sludge is dried in a sludge dryer having several zones. The initial moisture content of the sewage sludge may range up to 80% by weight, while the dried bulk material shall have a remainder moisture content of about 5% by weight. The drying gas temperature is maintained at a level up to 50.degree. C. to avoid activating additives that may be present in the sludge in the form of harmful substances to avoid the entry of these substances into the atmosphere. Furthere, the escape of processing air that has a noxious odor is avoided by passing the air through a deodorizer. The drying gas itself is reconditioned by reducing its moisture in a separate gas drying circuit from which the dried gas is again returned as a drying gas into the sludge dryer. A gas drying agent, such as a hygroscopic material is used in the gas dryer and the gas drying agent itself is regenerated by withdrawing moisture therefrom in a regenerating circuit.

Clogging and prolonged down times are avoided in a pelletizer for paste type materials such as sludge by providing an extruder hopper with at least one, preferably two, lower edge slide gates which can be opened to permit movement of a clogged screen zone out of alignment with the discharge opening of the hopper. The clogging material can be scraped off from the screen portion that is taken out of alignment with the hopper discharge opening. The cutting of the extruded sludge is accomplished by an oscillating lower screen section that slides back and forth below the upper screen section. The upper screen section is provided with two, preferably three zones, two of which are perforated and one of which is unperforated to form a closure for the hopper discharge opening. Screeding non-pelletizable material off the screen surface is accomplished either by a separate screeding device or by operating the slide gate or gates as screeds.
