Hydroxyfunctional compounds suitable for use in the polyisocyanate polyaddition process are obtained from polyurethane and/or polyurethane polyurea waste by decomposition with an alcohol and subsequent reaction of the alcoholysis products to reduce their content of low molecular weight, sterically unhindered aromatic amines.
