Provided are methods for handling reports on lost connections in a terminal device which is capable of being in communication connection with a plurality of network access nodes, wherein the terminal device generates, after having lost connection to a first network access node, a report on the loss of connection. The terminal device stores the report when the terminal device is reconnected to a third network access node comprising one of a different access technology, a different network, and a different network operator than the first network access node to which the terminal device was connected before the loss of connection. The terminal device also sends, upon or after reconnecting with one of the first and a second network access node, sending the report to one of the first and second network access nodes.

User equipment reporting of connection loss

A method in a first network node for handling traffic tracing of a user equipment. The first network node is comprised in a first Radio Access Technology, RAT, system. The first network node starts a handover procedure to handover the user equipment from the first RAT system to a second RAT system. The user equipment has an active traffic tracing ongoing in the first RAT system. The traffic tracing relates to tracing associated with communication between the user equipment and the first RAT system. The first network node sends a message to a second network node in the second RAT system. The message is sent directly to the second network node or via one or more intermediate network nodes. The message comprises one or more parameters relating to the ongoing traffic tracing of the user equipment. The parameters define when the traffic tracing is to continue in the second RAT system.

Network nodes and methods for handling traffic tracing of a user equipment

The present invention is a method and system adapted to facilitate, between a mobile station (MS) and network, an indication of support for reduced time transmission interval (RTTI). The MS can provide a base station system (BSS) with an indication of its multislot capability within an access burst sent at the start of a contention based access. In another aspect, the MS can indicate support for a new Immediate Assignment message as the conventional Immediate Assignment message can only assign single timeslots. The present invention enables the Radio Access Network (RAN) to assign RTTI and more than one timeslot for GPRS/EDGE temporary block flows (TBFs) during an Access Grant Channel (AGCH) assignment. The method of the present invention can be implemented in a computer program product or distributed software adapted to be loaded into at least one or a plurality of memory locations and executed by at least one or a plurality of respective computer processors.

Edge continued evolution, improved channel request method and system

A method is performed in a network node of a mobile communication network, for determining a dropped connection to a mobile terminal. The method comprises: detecting a release of a radio bearer associated with the mobile terminal; determining whether the radio bearer is a real-time type radio bearer; when the radio bearer is a real-time type radio bearer, determining the released radio bearer to be a dropped connection when the release is classified as an involuntary release; and when the radio bearer differs from a real-time type radio bearer, determining the released radio bearer to be a dropped connection when there is remaining user data in a buffer for transfer in either direction over the released radio bearer. A corresponding network node, computer program and computer program product are also presented.

Provided are methods for handling reports on lost connections in a terminal device which is capable of being in communication connection with a plurality of network access nodes, wherein the terminal device generates, after having lost connection to a (first) network access node, a report on the loss of connection and, upon or after reconnecting of the terminal device with the same or a different network access node, sends the report on the loss of connection to the network access node. Further provided are a terminal device comprising a receiver and a transmitter and being adapted to connect to an access node of a network, particularly of a wireless, e.g. a cellular radio network, said terminal device further comprising a report generator for generating a report on a loss of connection, wherein said transmitter is adapted to send said report to an access node upon or after reconnecting, and a network access node, particularly a network access node of a wireless, e.g. a cellular radio network, comprising a receiver and a transmitter and being adapted to be connected by a terminal device, wherein the receiver is adapted to receive reports on a loss of connection from a terminal device, and wherein the transmitter is adapted to forward or send a received report to a central server or to a different access node, particularly to an access node to which the terminal was connected before a loss of connection.

Methods, apparatus, and systems for measuring, on a per-QoS-class basis, the average number of user devices active on the uplink of a wireless communication system are disclosed. In an exemplary method, a number of mobile terminals with buffered data for transmission to a base station is estimated based on received buffer status reports. An estimated quantity of active mobile terminals is calculated, based on the received buffer status reports and a number of mobile terminals for which a semi-persistent scheduling grant has been granted. In some embodiments, the estimated quantity of active mobile terminals is estimated on a per-traffic-class basis, in which case the technique includes calculating first and second estimated quantities, corresponding to mobile terminals having active data bearers for first and second traffic classes, respectively, based on the received buffer status reports and the number of mobile terminals for which a semi-persistent scheduling grant has been granted.

Method and apparatus for measurement of active user devices per quality-of-service class indicator

The present inventions relates to a method and a network node for controlling an output uplink power level of a mobile station and for controlling an output downlink power level of a target base station in a target cell of a mobile communications system. The method comprises receiving at the network node a message indicating that a handover of the mobile station from an originating cell to the target cell is completed; and commanding the target base station to use an initial output downlink power level and the mobile station to use an initial output uplink power level, wherein the initial output downlink power level and the initial output uplink power level are based on at least previous power control levels used a time after previous handovers were completed between the originating cell and the target cell.

Method and a network node for controlling output uplink and downlink power levels in a mobile communications system

Methods and apparatus relate to cellular communications and in particular to a frequency spectrum shared by two cellular networks. An object is flexible utilization of the spectrum. This is achieved by a method where a first of the networks occupies part of the shared spectrum in relation to the traffic load in the first network. The first network informs a second of the networks on the extent the shared spectrum is occupied, for the second network to be free to use the shared spectrum outside the occupied part. A radio resource management unit, a base station controller, and a radio base station are also disclosed. An advantage is that spectrum can be lent from an old system when a new system is introduced.

Dynamic frequency band allocation between radio communication networks

A telecom node () such as a base station is configured to detect events. A low priority event may not be serious enough on its own to raise an alarm to a network management system () managing the telecom node (). However, the low priority event can collectively have a serious impact on the network performance if the event occurs over multiple nodes () of the network (). When a low priority event occurs over multiple nodes (), the telecom node () notifies the network management system () of the event by raising an alarm so that the situation can be addressed. In a partitioned network installation, not all neighboring nodes () are managed by a same network management system (). When the alarm is raised to the network management system (), other network management systems () managing the neighboring nodes () are notified of the alarm by the network management system ().

Alarm and event coordination between telecom nodes

In one embodiment, if a UE is performing minimizing drive test (MDT) measurements and a radio link failure (RLF) occurs, the UE may add MDT measurement information to an RLF message to the network. In effect, the UE 'piggy-backs' MDT information in the RLF report, and in so doing, provides greater flexibility to UEs reporting MDT information and more robust reporting. In another embodiment, the UE detects that no allowed reporting channel to report MDT measurement information exists, stores the MDT information, and after detecting that allowed reporting channel exists, initiates establishment of a radio link with the radio communications network during which the UE informs the network using an availability indicator that the UE has stored unreported MDT measurement information to be reported to the radio communications network.

A method of operating a telecommunications network () comprises detecting an insufficient software situation for a target radio base station (); a software source server () authorizing obtention of satisfactory software for the target radio base station from a source radio base station; and, the target radio base station obtaining the satisfactory software from the source radio base station. In example embodiments, the insufficient software situation can be either a missing software situation or an upgrade-required software situation.

Software distribution between radio base stations

The performance of a network, such as a mobile communications network, having multiple network nodes can be monitored. In a first network node, certain data flows passing through the node are tagged by adding a performance management identifier. In a second network node, statistics relating to data flows containing the performance management identifier are aggregated, and the aggregated statistics are reported to a management node of the communications network. This allows for the gathering of accurate statistics relating to specific types of data flow, such as data flows to specific types of user equipment or containing specific types of data, even though the second node, in which the statistics are generated, cannot itself distinguish between the different data flows.

Monitoring individual data flow performance

Cell outage within a wireless communication network is automatically mitigated. This way, neither manual operator intervention nor manual base station reconfiguration is needed to cover problematic cells. Quality of wireless services provided by the network improves when cell outage is automatically mitigated. In one embodiment, cell outage is mitigated in a wireless communication network by automatically communicating cell status messages between radio base stations or within a node that controls the radio base stations () indicating whether one or more cells within the network are currently disabled or expected to be disabled. The coverage area of one or more preexisting cells is modified to cover those cells which are currently disabled or expected to be disabled as indicated by the cell status messages (). The inter-base station interface can also be used to send messages directly between the base stations indicating addition of new cells or deletion of preexisting cells.
