The invention relates to a continuous flow cooling device () for cooling a metal strip (), in particular a metal strip made of aluminum or an aluminum alloy, having at least one strip flotation cooler (), which has several upper nozzles () distributed along the strip travel direction (B), and several lower nozzles () distributed along the strip travel direction (B), wherein the metal strip () can be transported in a floating manner between the upper nozzles () and the lower nozzles (), and the upper side of the strip as well as the underside of the strip can be supplied with cooling air in the process, and having several water cooling units (), by means of which the metal strip () can be supplied with cooling water. This device is characterized in that the water cooling units () are integrated in the strip flotation cooler ().

Continuous-flow cooling apparatus and method of cooling strip therewith

The invention relates to a device for continuous treatment of a metal strip (), in particular a metal strip consisting of aluminum or an aluminum alloy, or consisting of a non-ferrous metal or a non-ferrous metal alloy, said device comprising at least one temperature control device () through which the metal strip () is guided in a floating manner, and comprising at least one strip position regulation unit (), by means of which the position of the metal strip () can be controlled or regulated on the belt movement plane (E) and transversely to the strip running direction (B), wherein the temperature control device () has at least one entry-side heating section () and an exit-side cooling section (). The invention is characterised in that the strip position regulation unit () that works in a contactless manner has at least one contactless strip position detection element () and at least one linear motor () and is arranged within the heating section () or between the heating section () and the cooling section ().

Method and apparatus for continuous treatment of a metal strip

A trailing end of a leading metal strip is joined to a leading end of a trailing metal strip by first overlapping the leading end of the trailing strip with the trailing end of the leading strip and then clinching the ends together at the overlap by pressing at least one punch of a joining tool into one of the strips at the overlap sufficiently to complementarily deform both of the strips. The thickness of the leading and trailing ends is measured and a depth of engagement of the punch into the strips is controlled in accordance with the measured thickness.

Method of joining metal strips

A flatness-measuring roll for detecting flatness defects of a metal strip extending and moving in a strip-travel direction has a roll body having a cylindrical outer surface and a central axis extending generally perpendicular to the strip-travel direction and about which the body is rotatable. A plurality of measuring bars axially spaced along the body, recessed in the body, and having outer faces flush with the body surface are each at least limitedly radially shiftable relative to the body. The bars are angularly elongated, each extend along a plane substantially perpendicular to the roll axis, and each have a constant width measured parallel to the roll axis over generally all of a respective total angular length. At least two respective force-measuring sensors are braced radially between each of the bars and the roll body.

Roll for measuring strip flatness

A metal strip is gripped by an upstream set of infeed tension rollers and, downstream therefrom in a strip-travel direction, by a downstream set of outfeed tension rollers. These tension rollers are rotated so as to tension the strip between the upstream and downstream sets and move the strip downstream in the strip-travel direction. Between the sets the strip first passes around individually supported relatively rotatable stretch rollers to increase a plastic stretch ratio of the strip, and then through a plurality of straightening rollers to reduce curvature and residual tension of the strip and also to increase the plastic stretch ratio of the strip.

The system is preferably designed such that, as the immersion depth and/or the angle of contact are varied, the free strip length never exceeds the maximum value over the entire adjusting range.

Stretch-bending straightener

A method of leveling metal strip having a thickness &#x2266;1 mm has the steps of passing the strip in a travel direction through an upstream braking-roller set and a downstream tension-roller set and through a group of leveling rollers between the braking-roller set and the tension-roller set. A predetermined tension equal to at least 70% of a yield limit of the strip is applied to the strip between the braking-roller set and the tension-roller set for stretch-bend or tension straightening by differentially driving the upstream and downstream roller sets. The strip is bent between the leveling rollers to correct longitudinal curve. Leveling rollers are used of diameters that increase downstream in the travel direction and that are so great that the strip follows the curvature of the leveling rollers at the predetermined tension.
