A shell () for a prosthetic joint to be driven into a bone substance. The shell having an outer lateral surface () which is convexly curved in cross section and on which a plurality of ribs () is arranged. All ribs extend in the same direction at a preferably increasing gradient angle of 45° to 85° at the equatorial end () to a pole-side end (). The cumulative flank projection area of all ribs () corresponds to at least a fifth of the entire outer lateral surface. As a result of this measure, a very high primary stability is achieved once the shell has been driven in, the shell being screwed into the bone substance very precisely and without bone material being sheared off. This arrangement can also be applied, similarly, to a concavely curved inner lateral surface.

Shell to be driven into a bone substance for a prosthetic joint

An artificial joint cup, in particular a hip joint cup, for implanting in a cavity in a bone. The joint cup is, in particular, substantially in the form of a spherical dome cup, having a convex outer surface and a concave inner surface. In addition, the joint cup comprises an outer diameter and an inner diameter. The ratio of the difference between the outer diameter and the inner diameter, in relation to the outer diameter, is in a range of between 0.5 and 0.07, preferably between 0.3 and 0.075, particularly preferably between 0.2 and 0.1. The joint cup is manufactured from a ceramic material, and the convex outer surface has a micro-structuring.

Artificial joint cup

The instrument has a collet () that has at least two clamping jaws (') for engaging an engaging means () on an implant body (). The collet is received in a sleeve portion (), the free end () of which has a support portion () that can be supported on the surface of the implant. A tension element () that engages the collet is used as an actuating means for actuating the collet. The outer faces of the clamping jaws interact with the inner face of the sleeve portion such that the collet can be closed and moved relative to the free end of the sleeve portion by pulling the tension element.

Instrument for engaging an engaging means on an implant

The invention relates to a ball-and-socket implant (I), in particular an acetabular implant, preferably in the shape of a spherical cup shell, said implant having at least one region with a surface structure (). The at least one region extends between the equator and the pole of the spherical cup shell. The surface structure comprises a plurality of structural elements (), each of which is formed by a plurality of intersecting ridges () with opposite inclinations. The number of structural elements () on the equator () or on a circle of latitude near the equator is the same as on a circle of latitude near the pole. The ridges () have a curvature such that the inclination of the ridges with respect to the circles of latitude, and thus an angle between a tangent of the ridge curvature and a circle of latitude, continuously increases from the equator () to the pole ().

Joint socket implant

An implant, having a surface segment with at least one break line delineating an opening or recess of a closure segment which can be removed from the surface segment, is produced by first making a sub-assembly of the implant and then weakening the material in the region of the break line by material deformation.
