A method is provided for the antimicrobial treatment of a surface which comprises the contacting a surface with substituted 4-aminopyrimidines.

4-aminopyrimidines and their use for the antimicrobial treatment of surfaces

The use of 2,4&#x2014;bis(alkylamino)pyrimidines of formula (1) Ris C-Calkyl or C-Claryl; Ris hydrogen or C-Calkyl; or Rand Rtogether form a radical of formula (1) R' and R&#x2033; are each independently of the other hydrogen, C-Calkyl or C-Calkoxy, Rand Rare each independently of the other hydrogen or C-Calkyl; Ris C-Calkyl, unsubstituted phenyl, C-Caryl, C-Caryl-C-Calkyl, hydroxy-C-Calkyl, di-C-Calkylamino-C-Calkyl, mono-C-Calkylamino-C-Calkyl, &#x2014;(CH)2-(O&#x2014;(CH))&#x2014;OH or &#x2014;(CH)&#x2014;(O&#x2014;(CH))&#x2014;NH; Ris C-Calkyl, C-Caryl, C-Caryl-C-Calkyl, hydroxy-C-Calkyl, di-CCalkylamino-C-Calkyl, mono- C-Calkylamino-C-Calkyl, &#x2014;(CH)&#x2014;(O&#x2014;(CH))&#x2014;OH or &#x2014;(CH)&#x2014;(O&#x2014;(CH))&#x2014;NH; or Rand Rand/or Rand R, together form a pyrrolidine, piperidine, hexamethyleneimine or morpholine ring; in the antimicrobial treatment of surfaces. 

Use of substitute 2,4-bis (alkylamino) pyrimidines or quinzolines as antimicrobials

Tetrahydrocarbazoles of formulawhere Q is &#x2014;SO&#x2014;; &#x2014;O&#x2014;; or &#x2014;(CO)&#x2014;; X is &#x2014;(CH)&#x2014;; or &#x2014;N&#x2014;; m is from 1 to 3; t is 0 or 1 and the remaining substituents are as defined herein, are useful as antimicrobial active ingredients.
