A component for a gas turbine engine. The component includes a continuous fiber blade including an airfoil extending radially between a root and a tip and a blade attachment feature positioned at or adjacent to the root. The component further includes a platform coupled to the root of the continuous fiber blade. The platform includes a plurality of chopped fibers. Additionally, the component includes a thermoplastic polymer contained in both the continuous fiber blade and the platform. Moreover, the continuous fiber blade and platform are coupled together such that the continuous fiber blade and platform form a monolithic composite body.

A platform for use between adjacent propulsion rotor airfoils joined to a rotor disk to provide an inner flowpath boundary includes: an axially extending I-beam supporting a radially outer skin having a flowpath surface; the I-beam including an inner I-flange disposed at an inner edge of an axially extending I-web, and an outer I-flange disposed at an outer edge of the I-web; the I-beam including a laterally-extending forward end flange at a forward end of the I-web, and a laterally-extending aft end flange at an aft end of the I-web; and the radially outer skin disposed on top of and joined to the radially outer I-flange such that the forward end flange and the aft end flange abut the outer skin.

Platform apparatus for propulsion rotor

Fan blade platform includes axially extending I beam supporting radially outer skin having flowpath surface. I beam includes upper and lower or radially outer and inner I flanges on radially outer and inner beam ends of axially extending I web. Radially outer skin on top of and bonded or otherwise attached to radially outer I flange. I beam may be integral and monolithic and made from a non-metallic composite or thermoplastic material and have post cure formed weight relief holes. I beam may include oppositely facing or back to back first and second C beams. First C beam including axially extending first C web disposed between radially outer and inner first C flanges. Second C beam including axially extending second C web disposed between upper and lower or radially outer and inner second C flanges. I beam may be asymmetrical about center plane of I web.
