A control device () for a roll stand (). During rolling of a metal strip () in the roll stand (), the device receives measurement data (M) for a lateral position (y) of the metal strip () on the inlet side and/or outlet side of the roll stand (). Taking into account parameters (P) of the stand regulator () on the basis of the deviation in the lateral position (y) from a target position (y*), a stand regulator () of the control device () determines a tilt value (δs) for the roll stand () and controls the roll stand () accordingly. The control device () determines at least one variable (V, V, Q, Q) from which it is derived, for both strip edges () of the metal strip (), whether the metal strip () forms an undulation () in the region of the particular strip edge (). As soon as the metal strip () forms an undulation () in the region of one of the strip edges (), the control device () varies at least one of the parameters (P) of the stand regulator (), such that the stand regulator () determines the tilt value (δs), starting from the variation in the at least one parameter (P), and taking into account the changed parameter (P).

Preventing undulations when rolling metal strips

A metal strip is rolled in a roll stand and a control device for the roll stand determines, by means of a working cycle, a number of manipulated variables for flatness actuators of the roll stand and actuates them accordingly. The control device implements an optimizer, which provisionally sets the current correction values, and determines a totality of flatness values. Then, the optimizer minimizes the relationship by varying the current correction variables. When determining the current correction variables (s), the optimizer considers linear ancillary conditions, based at least in part on a vector having the ancillary conditions upheld by the current correction values and a vector having the ancillary conditions upheld by the difference of the current correction values relative to the correction values of the preceding working cycle. The control device determines the manipulated variables for the flatness actuators in consideration of the determined current correction variables.

Flatness control using optimizer

An automation system () determines control data (S'), outputs same to controlled elements () of the facility (ANL) and thereby controls the facility (ANL). Sensor devices () acquire measurement data (M) of the facility (ANL) and at least partly feed same to the automation system () and a man-machine interface (). Said man-machine interface () receives planning data (P) from a production planning system () and/or control data (S&#x2032;) and/or internal data (I) from the automation system (). The interface outputs the data (M, S&#x2032;, I) to a person (). It furthermore receives control commands (S) from the person () and forwards them to the automation system (). The automation system () processes the measurement data (M) and the control commands (S) when determining the control data (S&#x2032;). An artificial intelligence unit () receives at least part of the measurement data (M), control data (S&#x2032;) and/or internal data (I) and the data output to the person (). It also receives the control commands (S). The artificial intelligence unit () processes the data (M, S&#x2032;, I) and control demands (S) received and determines evaluation results (A) therefrom and makes the latter available to the person () and/or to the production planning system () and/or sets them for the automation system () in the form of control commands (&#x2033;) directly or via the man-machine interface (). The data (M, S&#x2032;, I) received by the artificial intelligence unit () are at least to some extent dimensional data. Said dimensional data (M, S&#x2032;, I) comprise at least one image captured by a sensor device () or an image output via the man-machine interface (), part of such an image, a time sequence of such images or a time sequence of a part of such images or an acoustic oscillation or an acoustic oscillation spectrum.

Use of comprehensive artificial intelligence in primary industry plants

A metal band is first rolled in a front and then in a rear (downstream) roll stand of a multi-stand rolling train. A looper between the roll stands may detect a band tension in the metal band. The band tension is supplied to a first and a second tension controller to determine an application additional target value and a speed additional target value. The second tension controller may only determine a value less than or greater than 0, as the speed additional target value, if the band tension is above or below an upper or lower band tension limit. Otherwise, the speed additional target value may be 0. The first tension controller is also supplied with a target tension that falls between the band tension limits. The application additional target value may be used to act on the rear roll stand.

Robust band tension control

Measurement accuracy during determination of the thickness of rolling stock, in particular a rolling strip or a metal plate, is remotely measured using a base measurement value for the thickness obtained by a radiation measurement system having a radiation source and a radiation detector, both carried by a holding mechanism. A reference measurement value for the thickness is measured by an ultrasonic measurement head that is likewise arranged on the holding mechanism. The reference measurement value is used to eliminate the influence of errors on the base measurement value.

Method and device for determining thickness of rolling stock

A strip has a left and a right side. The strip is rolled in a rolling stand. Stresses occurring in the strip at the feed and exit sides are detected by corresponding measuring sensors positioned on the left and right sides of the strip. The detected stresses are fed to a control unit for the rolling stand. The control unit determines a measurement for the transversal positioning of the strip in relation to the rolling stand using the relationship Z=ZLE*ZLA&#x2212;ZRE&#x2212;ZRA, where Z is the measurement. ZLE, ZLA, ZRE and ZRA are the individually detected stresses. The control unit determines a correcting variable for correcting the transversal positioning of the strip using the measurement for the transversal positioning and controls the rolling stand according to the correcting variable.

Control method for a rolling stand for rolling a strip

In mill stands of a continuous rolling train, a product passes through the train is rolled such that the product upon leaving the train has predetermined final characteristics. To remove one of the stands, the mill stand to be removed is completely relieved of load according to a defined temporal load relieving sequence. Locally simultaneously with the load relieving, at least one other mill stand is placed under load according to a defined temporal loading sequence. The load-relieving and loading sequence are mutually adjusted to preserve the final product characteristics. A circumferential roll velocity is controlled until the stand has been completely relieved such that a discharge velocity corresponds always to a predetermined desired discharge velocity. After the complete load-relieving, a correspondence of the circumferential roll velocity to the desired discharge velocity is maintained and the working rolls are lifted off. The mill stand is then deactivated.
