A drive assembly for a two-wheeled vehicle, wherein a closed chain is guided around a drive pinion and a sprocket for output. The chain is formed by pins, on each a bush rotatable about the center longitudinal axis of the pin, a roller provided on each bushing, for rotation around the bushing and has play, and the pins being connected to each other at two opposite ends by means of plates. The outer surface of the bushings and the rollers is coated with pure ta-C, having no further chemical elements except for unavoidable trace elements resulting from production in a PVD method. An Rroughness between 0.03 &#x3bc;m and 0.2 &#x3bc;m and/or an Rroughness between 0.3 &#x3bc;m and 2 &#x3bc;m is adhered to the surface of the coatings. The surfaces of the pinion and the sprocket in contact with the rollers do not have a coating of diamond-like carbon.

The invention relates to the production of wear-resistant layers which are exposed to friction wear on surfaces of components of internal combustion engines. In the process, wear-resistant layers are formed on the respective surface by electric arc discharge under vacuum conditions. The wear-resistant layers are formed from at least approximately hydrogen-free tetrahedrally amorphous (ta-C) comprising a mixture of sp2 and sp3 hybridized carbon and have a microhardness of at least 3500 HV and an arithmetical mean roughness value Ra of 0.1 &#x3bc;m without a mechanical, physical and/or chemical surface processing taking place.

Method of producing an anti-wear layer and anti-wear layer produced by means of said method

The invention relates to a system of sliding elements which are formed by a base body and a counter-body. It is the object of the invention to provide a system of sliding element comprising a base body and a counter-body which has a reduced mass with a sufficient strength and which achieves improved properties of friction and wear. The system of sliding elements in accordance with the invention is formed by a counter-body and a base body as friction partners. The base body is formed from a fiber-reinforced polymer material and the counter-body is coated with diamond-like carbon at the surface subject to friction. At least the base body is formed from a textile-reinforced polymer matrix structure.
