An evaporator defines an evaporator volume, and boils the liquid inside evaporator volume. A mixing chamber is in communication with the evaporator volume and mixes the vapor or moisture from the liquid in the evaporator with the breathing gas of the patient. The mixing chamber is a separate structure than the evaporator. The mixing chamber and the evaporator are connected by a first connection that is repetitively connectable and disconnectable without significant destruction of a respective connection. A heater is arranged outside of the evaporator and in a heat conducting connection with the evaporator. The heater is a separate structure than the evaporator. The evaporator and the heater are connected by a second connection that is repetitively connectable and disconnectable. A liquid storage tank is in communication with the evaporator and supplies a liquid to the evaporator through a flow channel. The liquid storage tank is larger than the evaporator. The flow channel is formed of a material and has a size to thermally insulate the evaporator from the liquid storage tank.

A connection of a sensor to a respirator/ventilator is provided without individual cable connections having to be led from the respirator to the sensor. A signal line () extends along the breathing gas tube () and is designed to transmit signals of the sensor () to the respirator. A contactless interface () is provided between the signal line () and the sensor ().

A respiration system is provided with an electrically driven rotary compressor as a gas delivery unit. The system makes a low-noise mounting of the gas delivery wheel possible. The gas delivery wheel can also be washed and sterilized and ensures a reliable separation of the breathing gas from the electric components. The respiration system rotary compressor is mounted magnetically axially and radially during operation.

An electromagnetic ball valve for a flow medium under pressure such as a respirating gas for a respirator which must be adapted to use with a respirator which operates at a high frequency in the range of fifty times the usual frequency. Such ball valve must be employed in the breathing gas supply so as to open and close the supply path and a small volume of gas internal of this apparatus permits this control. The electromagnetically ball valve is arranged with the electromagnetic pole pieces in a sheath and the pole pieces include a flow passage in which a ball moves between a seat and an abutment under the control of a separate electromagnetically controlled pole piece. The seat is cooperative with the ball valve with one connection for the flow medium and the abutment includes a connection for the space around the ball valve under another flow connection. With a delivery side connection through the space around the ball and with a seal on the seat it acts as a NC valve. With a delivery side connection through the seat against the ball and hence contact on the abutment it operates as a NO valve. Two magnetic coils around the respective pole pieces one having the seat and the other having the abutment move the ball into the desired end position and make remanences ineffective.
