A digital isolator includes a receiver configured to receive digital raw data at a primary side of the digital isolator. A digital-to-digital encoder is disposed at the primary side of the digital isolator. The digital-to-digital encoder is configured to create coded data. One or more digital isolators are configured to transmit the coded data across a transformer and an isolation barrier to create output coded data. A digital-to digital decoder is disposed at a secondary side of the digital isolator. The digital-to digital decoder is configured to decode the output coded data to create decoded data, determine error in coupling across the digital isolator based on the decoded data and the digital raw data, and provide an error signal based the error in coupling across the digital isolator.

Data quality monitoring across isolation

A data channel includes a power constrained first channel portion to receive energy from a limited power source and a non-power constrained second channel portion to receive energy from a different power source than the first channel portion. The first channel portion includes an ADC circuit to output an ADC data sample, a first transmitter circuit configured to serially transmit data that includes ON bits and OFF bits, and logic circuitry configured to derive transmit data from the ADC data sample. The transmitter circuit uses more energy transmitting the ON bits than the OFF bits, and the derived transmit data has a reduced number of the ON bits from the ADC data sample. The second channel portion includes a first receiver circuit to receive the derived transmit data from the first transmitter circuit of the first channel portion.

Power saving encoding for isolated galvanically data transmission

A transceiver that may be implemented in low-voltage differential signaling (LVDS) transmission system or a multipoint LVDS transmission system, and corresponding systems are disclosed herein. The transceiver can filter a common-mode component of a differential input signal input into the transceiver while maintaining a high impedance for a differential-mode component of the differential input signal. The transceiver utilizes teeter-totter circuitry to maintain the high impedance for the differential-mode component of the differential input signal.

Differential signaling transmission systems

A system for processing a signal in a signal chain having decentralized embedded power management of components of the signal chain includes an input circuit to generate a measurement signal responsive to a stimulus, where the measurement signal is indicative of a characteristic of the stimulus. The system additionally includes a signal converter circuit coupled to the input circuit to convert the measurement signal to a digital signal according to a timing condition for capturing a sample of the measurement signal. The signal converter includes a control circuit to provide electrical power to the input circuit based on the timing condition and a sampling circuit to capture the sample of the measurement signal responsive to an indicator signal generated by the sensor circuit.

Signal chain with embedded power management

Techniques for saving operating power of an analog-to-digital converter (ADC) are provided. In an example, a circuit can include an ADC configured to provide a multiple-bit digital representation of an analog input during a first mode of operation and an output configured to provide a single bit representation of a first comparison of the analog input signal to a second analog signal during a second mode of operation. In certain examples, the circuit can include an encoder configured to provide the multiple-bit digital representation during the first mode and to power down during the second mode of operation.

Dual mode data converter

An apparatus is provided comprising: a first power domain that includes a first component that operates at a first voltage level; a second power domain that includes a media access controller (MAC) that operates at a second voltage level; and a third power domain that includes a physical media access (PHY) device that operates at a third voltage level; wherein the first voltage level is higher than the second voltage level; and wherein the second voltage level is unreferenced; further including: a first reinforced electrical isolation circuit disposed on a first circuit path that includes at least one signal lane that extends between the first power domain and the second power domain; and a second reinforced electrical isolation circuit disposed on a second circuit path that includes at least one signal lane that extends between the MAC device and the PHY device.

Physical isolation between MAC and PHY ethernet connections

Techniques for duplex communication and power transfer across an isolator are provided. In an example, a first transceiver coupled to a first side of an isolator can include a transmit modulator configured to receive first data and timing signals, to provide control signals to oscillate an output of the transceiver to transmit power and to order each half-cycle of an oscillation cycle of the output to transmit the first data. A second transceiver coupled to a second side of the isolator can include a receive detection circuit configured to compare a received oscillation cycle with a plurality of thresholds and to provide a plurality of comparator outputs indicative of reception of the positive half-cycle and the negative half-cycle, and a receive decoder configured to identify the order of half-cycles and to provide an output indicative of logic level of the first data.

System for power transfer and duplex communication via single isolation device

An Ethernet or other communications module can amplify and reinforce a signal received from a non-local source without requiring a transformer or other magnetic component. A semiconductor integrated difference amplifier circuit can be used to amplify and reinforce a differential mode component of the received signal, while also attenuating a common mode component of the received signal. A transmission compensation network can generate a phase-shifted version of a locally transmitted signal being placed on the same communication terminals as the received signal during full duplex communications, for cancellation of such locally transmitted signal at inputs of a local receiver circuit. This can enhance detection of the received signal generated by the non-local source.

Balancing sense amplifier for ethernet transceiver

Apparatus and methods for a difference amplifier are provided. In certain examples, the difference amplifier can provide high common mode rejection without differential signal attenuation. In an example, a difference amplifier circuit can include first and second amplifiers, first and second buffer amplifiers, a first feedback voltage divider coupled between an output of the first buffer amplifier and an output of the second amplifier, and a second feedback voltage divider coupled between an output of the second buffer amplifier and an output of the first amplifier.
