A method for absorbing hydrogen in a crankcase of a hydrogen internal combustion engine is provided, comprising injecting, by a hydrogen injector, hydrogen into a combustion chamber of the hydrogen combustion engine; wherein a piston of the hydrogen combustion engine is configured to compress and expand the hydrogen injected into the combustion chamber; injecting, by a nozzle, a hydrogen carrier medium into the crankcase for hydrogenation of the carrier medium inside the crankcase with hydrogen leaked from the combustion chamber past a side wall of the piston into the crankcase; collecting, by a collector, the hydrogenated carrier medium from the crankcase; heating, by a heater, the hydrogenated carrier medium for dehydrogenation of the carrier medium and extracting hydrogen from the hydrogenated carrier medium; and injecting, by the nozzle, the dehydrogenated carrier medium into the crankcase for hydrogenation. The present disclosure further provides a system for a motor vehicle, and a motor vehicle comprising the inventive system.

A system and method for treating an engine exhaust is provided. In particular, waste heat from an engine exhaust is stored in a latent heat storage structure through a controllable heat exchanger and a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) catalytic converter is heated by the stored thermal energy in the latent heat storage structure using the controllable heat exchanger. The exhaust treatment system includes a selective catalytic reduction catalytic converter that has an inlet for connecting to an internal combustion engine to intake an engine exhaust and an outlet to output a catalytically treated engine exhaust. The system further includes a latent heat storage structure and a controllable heat exchanger for selectively exchanging heat to and from the catalytic converter and the latent heat storage structure.

A regeneration system of a combustion engine of a vehicle includes a speed control device configured to determine an acceleration time of the vehicle to a set speed, a NOx trap configured to reduce nitrogen oxides produced by the combustion engine, and a trigger configured to detect a loading level of the nitrogen oxides of the NOx trap in an exhaust gas produced by the combustion engine during operation. In further, the speed control device is configured to communicate with the trigger, wherein a regeneration of the NOx trap is configured to start in case the acceleration time of the vehicle to the set speed is at least equal to a regeneration time of the NOx trap at the loading level of the nitrogen oxides.
