The present invention relates to a method for producing a suspension of agglomerates of magnetic alkoxysilane-coated metal nanoparticles, wherein an aqueous suspension of magnetic metal nanoparticles is incubated with alkoxysilane, wherein the incubation is carried out essentially in the absence of an organic solvent. The present invention further relates to suspension of agglomerates of magnetic alkoxysilane-coated metal containing nanoparticles obtainable by the method of the present invention and to a composition comprising agglomerates of magnetic alkoxysilane-coated metal nanoparticles, wherein the agglomerates have an average size of 30 to 450 nm, preferably of 50 to 350 nm and especially of 70 to 300 nm as determined by light scattering.

Agglomerating magnetic alkoxysilane-coated nanoparticles

The present invention relates to compositions containing nanoparticies and uses of said composition for transferring therapeutically active substances into cells by means of specifically coated nanoparticles. The chemical design of the particles is such that a large amount thereof is absorbed into the cells. No direct bond between nanoparticle and the therapeutically active substance is required for the transfer into the cells. Thanks to said transfer, an increased efficacy of the substance and simultaneously reduced systemic toxicity is achieved, i.e. an increase in the efficacy while the side effects are reduced.

Method for carrying therapeutic substances into cells

The present invention relates to nanoparticles, wherein at least one therapeutically active substance is bound to said nanoparticle and wherein the separation of the at least one therapeutically active substance from the nanoparticle is caused or initiated by an alternating magnetic filed. Furthermore, the present invention relates to pharmaceutical compositions, in particular to injection solutions containing the nanoparticles as well as to the use thereof for the treatment of cancer.

The invention relates to an alternating magnetic field application device for heating magnetic or magnetizable substances in biological tissue, in particular for thermal therapy using magnetic nanoparticles, composed of a large applicator () having a magnetic yoke () and two oppositely situated pole shoes () on the magnetic yoke () which are separated by an exposure gap (), and having two magnetic coils (), which are respectively associated with a pole shoe (), for generating a substantially homogenous alternating magnetic field () of a given field strength in the exposure gap (), wherein the biological tissue to be irradiated may be brought into the exposure gap () as an exposure target volume. According to the invention, in the exposure gap () a field concentrator () is situated in the immediate proximity of the biological tissue to be irradiated as the exposure target volume, in particular on or in a patient in the immediate proximity of a body part to be irradiated, such as a diseased prostate (), the field concentrator concentrating the alternating magnetic field () of the large applicator () in the target volume and thereby locally enhancing the alternating magnetic field at that location.

Alternating magnetic field application device for heating magnetic or magnetizable substances in biological tissue

The invention relates to a method for cultivating cancer cells for scientific serial assays, wherein a tissue sample which is heterogeneous with respect to contaminants, normal cells and tumor cells is locally separated in a sequential-parallel splitting method. The locally separated sample segments are further split, wherein the tissue fragments and liquids of the tissue segments are separately placed in a given cell culture medium and grown under predetermined culture conditions. The invention also relates to a cell culture medium and a device for splitting the tissue samples into disc segments. The inventive method combined with the splitting device and the culture medium enables fast cultivation of cancer cells obtained from human tissue with a multiplication rate of 100% in all types of tumors.

Method for cultivating cancer cells from human tissue and device for preparing tissue samples

The invention relates to nanoscale particles suited especially for use in tumor therapy by hyperthermia. Said particles comprise a (preferably superparamagnetic) iron oxide-containing core and at least two shells surrounding said core. The (innermost) shell adjoining the core is an envelope which comprises groups capable of forming cationic groups and is broken down by human or animal tissue at such a slow rate as to allow for association of the core surrounded by said envelope with the surface of cells and/or for absorption of said core into the inside of cells. The outer shell(s) consist(s) of species having neutral and/or anionic groups which allow the nanoscale particles to appear to the outside as having a neutral or negative charge and which are broken down by human or animal tissue more rapidly than the innermost shell&#x2014;and in so doing uncover the shells underneath&#x2014;but still sufficiently slowly so as to ensure that the nanoscale particles are adequately distributed in a tissue infiltrated with same particles in a particular point.

Nanoscale particles having an iron oxide-containing core enveloped by at least two shells

A stent made of metallic and/or non-metallic material that can be implanted into tubular structures or other body cavities is coated with nanoscale particles that consist of a paramagnetic core and at least one shell adsorbed to it which is durably bonded to the stent surface. This coating makes it possible to selectively and homogeneously heat up the implant by applying an alternating magnetic field with a clinically tolerable combination of field strength and frequency, thereby achieving high power absorption and, on the one hand, a temperature level that enhances the growing-in of the implant by enhancing cell proliferation, on the other hand, a temperature range in which a restenosed implant can be regenerated. Also, it facilitates position detection.

Stent for keeping open tubular structures

A medical preparation for treating arthrosis, arthritis and other rheumatic joint diseases comprises a suspension consisting of one-shelled or multi-shelled nanoscalar particles composed of a core containing iron oxide and of an inner shell with groups capable of forming cationic groups or, optionally, of at least one outer shell with neutral and/or anionic groups. Radionuclides and substances, said substances being cytotoxically active when subjected to heat, are bound to the inner shell. The preparation that is injected into the joint cavity and subjected to an alternating electromagnetic field promises an excellent treatment outcome due to the high rate of phagocytosis and the trimodal combinatorial effect of thermotherapy, radiotherapy and chemotherapy.
