In a high-pressure discharge lamp including a ceramic discharge vessel, a secure connection between a hybrid antenna as starting aid and a leadthrough of the discharge vessel is provided by virtue of the fact that a means between leadthrough and extension limits the ohmic resistance between leadthrough and hybrid antenna preferably to at most 100&#x3a9;.

The elongate bulb () of the lamp, which defines a longitudinal axis (A), is closed at opposite ends by sealing parts (), with in each case one cap being fitted at one end, the cap having an electrical contact element () which is connected in an electrically conductive manner to a supply conductor () leading to a luminous means, the contact element being accommodated in a tubular extension () of the sealing part; the contact element () has an attachment part () which is directed inward toward the lamp interior and is equipped with at least two barbs () which are in contact with the tubular extension ().

The lamp comprises a discharge vessel () which is closed off in a vacuum-tight manner and is arranged in an outer bulb (), a getter material being held on a support body inside the outer bulb (). The support body is a support strip () to which the getter material is applied, the support strip being bent in such a way that it is automatically held in the outer bulb () without the need for any auxiliary means.

The process comprises the provision of a discharge vessel () which is closed off on one side, fitting a second tube over part of the discharge vessel and evacuating and filling the volume of the outer bulb via a pumping hole, which remains open in the second extension part within the second tube. This pumping hole is only closed at the end by means of an operation which closes it by rolling.

Metal halide discharge lamp

To provide a fill in a low-power, high-pressure discharge lamp, which is capable of emitting light within a warm white light (WDL) color or neutral white light (NDL) color, that is, in the ranges of between about 2600 to 4600K, the fill has a relative relationship of sodium halide to scandium halide between 5:1 and 24:1, a relationship of sodium halide to thallium halide of 25:1 to 73:1, and a heat damming or heat retention or reflection coating (15, 16) is located at the end caps of the generally bulbous discharge vessel to provide for a cold spot temperature (Tc) of at least 800.degree. C., and preferably higher.

Low-power, high-pressure discharge lamp, particularly for general

Low-power, high-pressure discharge lamps, that is lamps having a power rag below and up to about 400 W, have a quartz discharge vessel retaining a metal halide fill which, to obtain a color temperature between 2700.degree. to 3400.degree. C. contains sodium and tin. To prevent deterioration of the electrode head (19; 39; 59), it is formed in essentially cylindrical or frusto-conical outer contour, which has a mass determined by the formula M=i.sub.L .times.(23.+-.8), and is retained on an electrode pin or shaft (17; 38; 58) having a diameter (d) in millimeters ##EQU1## wherein i.sub.L is the effective value of the lamp current in amperes. Preferably, the electrode head (19) extends beyond the end portion of the electrode pin to define a small depression with respect thereto. The particular shape and dimension of the electrode head and the electrode shaft reduces flicker and electrode burning.

Metal halide low-power high-pressure discharge lamp

With high-pressure discharge lamps, and, more specifically, ultra high-prure discharge lamps, the electrode shafts (4, 5) are located within cylindrical elongated necks (2, 3) of quartz glass extending from the arc tube (1). To prevent adhesion of quartz from the cylindrical elongated necks (2, 3) of the arc tube (1) upon melt-sealing the necks (2, 3) to the electrode shafts (4, 5), the electrode shafts (4, 5) are surrounded by flexible tissue or fabric hoses, tubes or braids (21, 22), made of highly heat-resistant, electrically insulating inorganic material, for example made of quartz fibers. The tissue hose has an inner diameter which corresponds at least to the outer diameter of the eletrode shaft (4, 5) and is not more than 0.5 mm greater than the electrode shaft. Stray molten material from the necks (2, 3) at the junction or transition zone between the arc tube (1) and the respective necks thus cannot adhere to the electrode shafts, and cracking of the quartz glass in the region of the electrode shafts can be avoided.

In the method for making a reflective coating at the ends of the discharge essel of a high-pressure discharge lamp, the suspension for making the coating includes from 0.5 to 5% by weight of a highly dispersed pyrogenic silicic acid - aluminum oxide mixture, 0 to 5% by weight of acetic acid, 0 to 1% by weight of boric acid, 24 to 55% by weight of water, and zirconium oxide to make up 100% by weight. By using the novel suspension, the previously required process steps of baking and white-burning can be omitted.
