A universal joint shaft with universal joint shaft protection comprises at least one shaft element for transmitting torque, at least one protective tube element arranged around the shaft element, and an intermediate bearing, by means of which the shaft element is rotatably mounted about an axis of rotation (L) in the protective tube element, wherein the intermediate bearing comprises an outer ring fixed to the protective tube element and an inner ring fixed to the shaft element, which are rotatable relative to each other, and a clamping mechanism by means of which the inner ring is fixed on the shaft element.

A torque limiting coupling is arranged rotatably around a longitudinal axis. The torque coupling comprises at least one locking element that is displaceable between a locking position and an unlocking position and that is biased towards the locking position. The locking element is transferable into the locking position in the decoupling position of a switching disc, in which locking position the locking element is supported in a circumferential direction on a coupling hub and on the switching disc, and in which the switching disc is locked against rotation relative to the coupling hub. The at least one locking element is further transferable into the locking position when the switching disc is in its coupling position wherein, in the locking position, the locking element is supported in a circumferential direction on the coupling hub and the switching disc, and the switching disc is locked against rotation relative to the coupling hub.

A protective device for a universal shaft () has an attachment element (), a tubular guard () and at least one latching device (). The attachment element () is positioned around a shaft journal () projecting from a housing (). The tubular protective guard () extends along a longitudinal axis L and is positioned around a universal shaft () connected to the shaft journal (). The at least one latching device () attaches the protective guard () on the attachment element (). The protective guard () has at least one joining lines () extending in the longitudinal direction L. The protective guard () can be separated and opened to receive the universal shaft ().
