A system herein includes one or more processors to determine asymmetric compensation measurements from at least one receiver antenna pair and at least one transmitter antenna pair on a tool body in an underground formation. The asymmetric compensation measurements are to be used with symmetric compensation measurements from the plurality of antenna pairs. The asymmetric compensation measurements are associated with signals from individual transmitter antennas that are at asymmetric or unequal distances from individual receiver antennas that receive a version of the signals. The individual receiver antennas are part of the at least one receiver antenna pair having symmetrically located receiver antennas with respect to a midpoint of the tool body and the individual transmitter antennas are part of the at least one transmitter antenna pair having symmetrically located transmitter antennas with respect to a midpoint of the tool body.

Antenna bars are provided for winding of coils through associated coil carriers of individual ones of the antenna bars. The one or more processors are configured to perform: generating a mechanics model of at least one of the first downhole component and a second downhole component, the mechanics model based on geometrical data representing at least one of the first downhole component and the second downhole component; estimating a misalignment of the at least one formation parameter sensor by using the mechanics model; and correcting the formation parameter data based on the misalignment.

Methods and apparatus for determining at least one parameter of interest of an earth formation. Methods include using at least one transmitter to initiate at a single location in the formation a first electromagnetic signal at a first frequency and a second electromagnetic signal at a second frequency different than the first frequency for propagation through the formation; receiving the first electromagnetic signal propagating through the formation and the second electromagnetic signal propagating through the formation at a single receiver non-collocated with the at least one transmitter; estimating a relative phase shift of the second electromagnetic signal relative to the first electromagnetic signal; estimating a relative attenuation of the second electromagnetic signal relative to the first electromagnetic signal; using the relative attenuation and the relative phase shift to estimate a parameter of interest of the formation. An apparatus and method for estimating a parameter of interest of an earth formation involving alignment information between receivers and their corresponding oriented transmitters. The method may include generating signals indicative responses to energy transmitted into an earth formation; estimating differences in alignment between transmitters and receivers; using the estimated differences in alignment to compensate for misalignment; and estimating a parameter of interest using the misalignment compensated signals. The apparatus may include a bottom hole assembly with one or more oriented transmitters, one or more oriented receivers, one or more alignment sensors, and at least one processor configured to compensate for misalignment using information about difference in alignment between the at least one oriented transmitter and at least one oriented receiver.

A method of processing downhole measurement data includes: receiving formation measurement data generated by a downhole tool during a logging-while drilling operation over a selected time period; receiving a measured depth corresponding to the selected time period based on data taken at a surface location; receiving tool rotation data generated by measurements of a rotational rate of the downhole tool taken by a downhole sensor during the selected time period; calculating a new depth of the tool as a function of time over the selected time period based on a relationship between the tool rotation data and the measured depth; and correcting an original depth of the measurement data with the new depth.

A dynamic data compression system for forming and transmitting data from a downhole location within a borehole penetrating the earth to a surface location includes a data source that forms raw data sets of a formation contacting the borehole, the raw data sets being formed at a fixed rate and a data rate sampler that determines a transmission rate of a transmission channel. The system also includes a compression engine configured to compress the raw data sets according to compression parameters to form compressed data sets. The compression parameters are dynamically changed based on the transmission rate.
