A life support system such as a heart-lung machine may include a plurality of medical devices a control panel and an excellent control position. The control panel may have separate control elements for operating the medical devices. The control panel may be constructed protruding essentially flat over a floor area of the majority of the medical devices. The control panel may be constructed to protrude in such a manner, that a control element, aligned only with a particular device and with the control position, is assigned to each device.

Life support system

A display and control device for medical equipment, comprising several identically configured display/control units, which are located on a base unit. The base unit is equipped with a bus, to which the display/control units and components of the medical equipment are connected. The base unit comprises connection devices, which are used to connect the display/control units to the bus. Once a display/control unit has been connected, a configuration unit transmits configuration data to the display/control unit and only then defines which function the display/control unit is to fulfill. This permits defective display/control units to be simply replaced. The construction of the display/control units is likewise simple and not susceptible to malfunctions.

Display and control device for medical equipment

An apparatus for extracorporeal oxygenation of a patient's blood during cardiopulmonary bypass surgery. The apparatus comprises a bubble sensor, arranged at or connected to a venous line, for detecting bubbles in the venous blood received from the patient. When air bubbles are detected, a second pump is activated to draw air from an air chamber provided in an air filter connected to the venous line and arranged downstream of the bubble sensor. A first pump draws the blood from the air filter and supplies the blood to an oxygenator and to the patient via an arterial line.

Automatic air removal system

The invention relates to an apparatus for measuring physiological parameters of blood conveyed within an extracorporeal circulatory system. Two light sources (1a, 1b) emit light of varying wavelength into a spherical cavity (3) that comprises a reflective inner surface (3a). Light sensor means (2) receives part of the light propagating within the cavity (3). A tube portion of the extracorporeal circulation can be inserted into a second cavity (4) such that the light (La, Lb) emitted by the light sources encounters the boundary surface between the blood and an inner wall of the tube. The light returns to the cavity (3) at least to an extent by means of reflection and/or transmission.

A roller pump for medical technology, in particular for pumping blood in extracorporeal circulations. The roller pump has a stator (1) with a cylindrical hollow space (2), the wall structure of which is formed as a support wall (3) for a pump tube (5) led along this wall about the central longitudinal axis of the hollow space. A pump rotor is rotatably arranged about its central longitudinal axis (4) in the pump stator, the rotor having rollers (8) which are rotatably supported on roller supports (7) and roll along the tube upon rotation of the rotor and compress the tube. The support wall (3) of the pump stator has an opening (6) with an inlet region (10) and an outlet region (12) for the tube (5) and, in these regions, this support wall deviates from the circular path of motion of the pump rollers (8) at a differing curvature along the direction as this path of motion. The support wall (3) has a continuously increasing radius of curvature in the inlet region (10) in the direction of motion of the pump rollers (8) and a continuously decreasing radius of curvature in the outlet region (12) in the direction of motion of the rollers.

For limiting the maximum radiation intensity of a radiation source, in particular a laser, a transparent breakdown cell (4, 10, 17) with defined breakdown threshold value is placed within the ray path of the radiation source (2, 8, 15).

An adapter is disclosed which is suitable for connecting a light guide end piece to a coupling device of a light source of high intensity, particularly of a medical laser apparatus. The adaptor has a first section 2 which can be fixed in the coupling device 11 as well as a second section 3 which can be axially slid with respect to the first section 2. The second section 3 carries an input lens system 4 and, when the light guide end piece 20 is pushed in, is axially displaced from the first I to a second II position and locked there. Safety devices of the laser apparatus which prevent a start of the operation without any inserted light guide are switched only in the second position II.

A device for allowing the adjustment of the length of a fiber optic waveguide is disclosed. The device couples casings of different inner and outer diameters together, while allowing for the movement of the fiber optic waveguide within the casings. The device is useful for adapting the fiber optic guide to different instruments, such as endoscopes.

The disclosure relates to an application part for rigid or flexible endoscopes having a viewing channel and a working channel extending parallel to the viewing channel, with the working channel being equipped with a guide as well as a defined stop for a fiber optic waveguide, which can be inserted and coupled with a laser light source, and the working channel having optics for concentrating the laser light emerging from the fiber optic waveguide onto a punctiform area. The part of the working channel surrounding the punctiform area is formed as shock wave reflector. Further, a flushing channel is provided, the outlet opening of which is at least partially directed onto the face of the optics from which the light emerges.

Application part for an endoscope

A detachable connection between a light-guide fiber and a laser suited particularly for medical purposes comprises two coupling elements. In the light exit opening of the first coupling element an optical coupling system is arranged which is connected to the former and can be adjusted parallel and/or perpendicularly to the optical axis. The first coupling element comprises a device for generating an axial force on the second coupling element. Between the first and second coupling elements, contact surfaces with high thermal conductvity are provided, by means of which heat is transferred in the coupled condition from the second coupling element to the first coupling element.

Detachable connection between a light-guide fiber and a laser

For operating a laser at different wavelengths, at least one of the two mirrors of the oscillator is subdivided into two or more regions with different spectral reflectivity, where each region reflects only one of the emission wavelengths of the laser medium and is largely permeable for the remaining emission wavelengths. Each such region can be inserted separately into the ray path of the laser.

A light guide, particularly for medical instruments with a light guide fiber, which is surrounded, if needed, by a protective jacket, a sleeve which surrounds the light guide fiber at a distance therefrom and consists of one or several tubes and a feeding unit on one side of the light guide for the feeding of light radiation into the light guide fiber. The light guide fiber and a tube of the sleeve are mounted in the feeding unit, while the other end of the light guide fiber is mounted in the tube of the sleeve. A length compensating element that can change its length axially but is largely not expandable radially, is set in the sleeve to prevent stresses acting longitudinally on the sleeve and light guide fiber due to bending, especially during the coiling of the light guide fiber.
