A printing method with fan-out control minimizes register deviations by using a computer. The method includes printing a test print including various color separations. The register deviations that have occurred relative to a reference color are measured. The absolute total of the register deviations of all color separations relative to one another is calculated. At least one color separation to be adapted is selected as a function of the calculated absolute total of all color separations. The at least one selected color separation is adapted. Finally, the register deviations that have occurred are compensates for by creating and using at least one printing plate for the adapted at least one color separation.

Method for efficient fan-out control

A method for controlling the metering of ink in a printing press uses a control unit for comparing measured color values established on a print control strip to target color values and for controlling the metering of ink in the inking units of a printing press. The method is distinguished by the fact that the halftone of the measurement fields used for establishing the measured color values in the print control strip is independent of the halftone of the printed image. A printing substrate, a printing plate and a printing press having a device for creating halftone image data are also provided.

Before image data are screened for the subsequent exposure of a printing form, files needed for the screening step are changed in such a way that the values of individual elements in the data fields are changed. The number of elements whose values are changed is determined by evaluating contiguous regions within the data fields. These can be, for example, threshold value matrices in which individual matrix elements are set to a value corresponding to the color white, or which, for the half-tones, are calibrated to a reduced value of the full-tone density. In the latter case, the full-tone image points are screened with a frequency-modulated screen.

Method for reducing the area coverage of a printing plate

A visual control device in the form of at least one control marking is provided on an exposed printing plate for a printing press, the visual control device being applied during exposure of the printing plate. The control marking includes at least two strips extending at least approximately in parallel, one of the strips depicting an uncalibrated tonal value profile around a defined halftone value, while another of the strips depicts the defined halftone value calibrated in the printing process. The control marking is provided with at least one region wherein the uncalibrated tonal value profile and the calibrated defined halftone value coincide visually in terms of color; and a printing plate provided with at least one of the control devices.
