An AM/FM radio system for a vehicle that is selectively impedance matched to the particular tuned frequency of interest so that noise received by other frequencies does not affect the received signal. The radio system includes an HMI allowing a user to select an AM or FM radio station and a radio tuner responsive to a signal from the HMI identifying the selected radio station. The tuner tunes the radio system to the radio station, and provides a signal to the HMI identifying the radio station. The HMI places a message on a vehicle bus identifying the radio station that the radio tuner is tuned to. An antenna controller receives the message from the vehicle bus to selectively control an impedance matrix to provide impedance matching for the selected radio station frequency. The antenna controller also selectively tunes antenna radiating elements to the particular tuned frequency.

AM/FM antenna performance in the presence of wide-band noise using tunable high-Q structures

An antenna capable of receiving both left-hand circularly polarized (LHCP) signals and right-hand circularly polarized (RHCP) signals, and outputting both signals on a single feed. The antenna includes two coplanar concentric patches. The inner patch is substantially square. The outer patch surrounds the inner patch to define a gap therebetween. A resonant parallel inductive/LC circuit interconnects the two patches. The circuit includes a plurality of printed traces within the gap and interconnecting the concentric patches. The gap and each trace function as an LC circuit.

The specification discloses a low-profile, ultra wideband, inverted f antenna having increased bandwidth. The antenna includes a ground plane, a planar antenna element spaced from the ground plane, a first tubular element electrically connected to and extending from the ground plane toward the antenna element, and a second tubular element electrically connected to and extending from the antenna element toward the ground plane. The tubular elements physically interfit but are electrically separated. The antenna is compatible with LTE, GPS and satellite radio communications to provide a compact antenna suitable for use in automotive and other applications.

Low profile wideband antenna

An antenna assembly including a ground plane and a radiator supported above the ground plane is disclosed. The radiator may include a slot to configure the radiator to be resonant in at least two frequency ranges and a grounding point coupled to the ground plane. The radiator may be a dual-band planar inverted F antenna (PIFA) having an upper surface opposite the ground plane. First and second antenna modules may be coupled to the upper surface of the PIFA. The first and second antenna modules may be patch antennas, such as stacked patch antennas.

Low profile antenna assemblies

According to various exemplary embodiments, an antenna assembly generally includes one or more antennas, such as a single multi-frequency antenna, first and second stacked patch antennas, etc. The antenna assembly may be operable for receiving signals having different frequencies (e.g., a frequency associated with a satellite digital audio radio service (SDARS), a frequency associated with a global positioning system (GPS), etc.). The antenna assembly may generally include at least one antenna (e.g., a single multi-frequency antenna, first and second stacked patch antennas, etc.) having at least one feed point and tuned to at least one of a first frequency and a second frequency that is different than the first frequency. A low noise amplifier may be in communication with the at least one feed point for amplifying signals having the first frequency and signals having the second received from a signal output. A single communication link may be used for communicating an output signal of the antenna assembly.

Stacked patch antennas

The specification discloses various embodiments of modular antenna assemblies for automotive vehicles. In one exemplary embodiment, an antenna generally includes a base assembly that may be used on a variety of vehicle platforms. The antenna may also include a radome assembly that is specific to a particular vehicle platform. The radome assembly may snap-fit onto the base assembly, and be installed during or after vehicle assembly. A wide variety of radome assemblies of different shapes, styles, and colors may be used in conjunction with a single base assembly.

Modular antenna assembly for automotive vehicles

According to various exemplary embodiments, an antenna assembly generally includes a first patch antenna and a second patch antenna. The first patch antenna may include a first feed point and be tuned to a first frequency. The second patch antenna may include a second feed point and be tuned to a second frequency. The antenna assembly may further include a low noise amplifier in communication with the first and second feed points of the respective first and second patch antennas for amplifying signals received by the first and second patch antennas.

Various embodiments provide antennas capable of receiving both left-hand circularly polarized (LHCP) signals and right-hand circularly polarized (RHCP) signals, and outputting both signals on a single feed. In one exemplary embodiment, an antenna generally includes two substantially coplanar concentric patches. The inner patch is substantially square. The outer patch has inner and outer edges both of which are substantially square. The two patches do not physically contact one another. A single feed is connected to the inner patch. The inner patch receives the LHCP signal, and the two patches operate collectively together for receiving the RHCP signal.

The specification discloses a modular antenna for automotive vehicles. The antenna includes a base assembly that can be used on a variety of vehicle platforms and a radome assembly that is specific to a particular vehicle platform. The radome assembly snap-fits onto the base assembly, and can be installed during or after vehicle assembly. A wide variety of radome assemblies of different shapes, styles, and colors can be used in conjunction with a single base assembly.

In various exemplary embodiments, an antenna assembly includes a first patch antenna and a second patch antenna. The first patch antenna includes a first feed point and is tuned to a first frequency. The second patch antenna includes a second feed point and is tuned to a second frequency. The antenna assembly may also include a transmission line having a first end in communication with the first feed point. A second end of the transmission line may be in communication with the second feed point. One of the first and second ends of the transmission line may provide a signal output for signals that are received by the first and second patch antennas. The antenna assembly may also include a low noise amplifier that receives a signal from the signal output of the transmission line.

An antenna includes a support and an electroconductive first antenna element, e.g., an electroconductive coating, located on the support and spaced from at least one electroconductive second antenna element. The first antenna element is connected to a ground through an electronic filter device, such as an inductor, configured to pass selected frequencies, e.g., AM frequencies, to the ground to eliminate the selected frequencies from the signal provided by the first antenna element. The first antenna element is preferably located between the second antenna element and a source of electronic noise to shield the second antenna element from at least a portion of the electronic noise. The second antenna element receives and provides at least one of the selected frequencies passed to the ground from the first antenna element.
