An automotive component is produced by hot forming and press hardening a hardenable steel alloy having a tensile strength of at least 1700 MPa. The hardenable steel alloy, in addition to a balance made up of iron and melting-related impurities, has the following alloy elements carbon, niobium, and titanium. The automotive component is coated by a thermal coating process.

A method for producing a motor vehicle axle component includes the method steps of providing a metal strip made of a hardenable steel material, hot rolling the metal strip and subsequent cold rolling with more than 4% rolling reduction degree, annealing at 600 to 800&#xb0; C., in particular at 650 to 750&#xb0; C. for a time period between 10 and 20 hours, in particular 13 to 17 hours, cutting the heat treated metal strip to cut sheet metals, forming the metal cut into a motor vehicle axle component, austenizing and quenching the motor vehicle axle component, wherein the motor vehicle axle component has at least in a surface region a grain size characteristic value according to ASTM-E 112 of greater than 9.

The present invention relates to a manufacturing process of a structural component for a motor vehicle, wherein a plate bar is heated, is fed to a die in the heated state and is shaped in the die. The process is characterized in that the plate bar is subjected to a nitriding process before the shaping. Furthermore, a plate bar for hot-forming for manufacturing a structural component for a motor vehicle is described, wherein the surface of the plate bar has a nitrided layer. Finally, the present invention relates to a structural component of a motor vehicle, which is manufactured by hot forming from a plate bar having a nitrided layer.

The present invention, among other things, relates to a method for producing a workpiece by press hardening a semi-finished product, which is distinguished by the fact that the semi-finished product consists of a steel which has a high content of silicon of at least 0.9 wt. %, with a simultaneously small content of manganese of less than 0.9 wt. %, a small carbon content of less than 0.25 wt. %, and a high chromium content of more than 1.20 wt. %, and which by heating is brought to a state in which the structure of the steel that is used is at least partially transformed to austenite, also optionally fully transformed to austenite, and the thus-heated semi-finished product is hot shaped so that after the hot deformation shaping, a structure is present in the workpiece that has a complex phase structure with predominantly martensite and ferrite fractions. In addition, a workpiece is described, which is produced according to this method, as well as uses of such a workpiece.
