For a vehicle () with a tractor () and a trailer (), a view system has a capture unit () with an image sensor () for capturing image data of an area of view, around the vehicle, a processing unit () for processing the image data, and a reproduction unit () for reproducing at least one first image section () and one second image section () of the area of view () captured by the capture unit (). The processing unit provides different resolutions of image data depending on the position of the tractor with respect to the trailer.

View system for a vehicle

A camera system for a vehicle comprising a capturing unit which comprises an optical element and image sensor with surface, to capture a section of a vehicle environment. The optical element has a distortion curve r=f(&#x3b1;), wherein r is the distance between an object point displayed on the image sensor surface and the intersection point of the optical axis with the image sensor surface, and &#x3b1; is the angle between the optical axis of the optical element and the beam incident on the optical element from the object point. The distortion curve r=f(&#x3b1;) has, for r=f (&#x3b1;) within 0&#x3c;r&#x3c;r, a turning point &#x3b1;; r, for which r&#x2033;=f&#x2033;(&#x3b1;)=dr/d&#x3b1;(&#x3b1;)=0 applies, wherein ris the distance r=f(&#x3b1;) on the image sensor surface from the optical axis to the most distant edge of the image sensor.

A display system and method for displaying an image to the driver of a vehicle, in particular a commercial vehicle. The display system has a capturing device mountable to the vehicle and adapted to capture at least part of the vehicle's immediate environment, and to generate signals corresponding to the captured part of the vehicle's immediate environment, a calculation unit adapted to receive the signals generated by the capturing device, determine obstacles within the captured immediate environment of the vehicle, and generate a display image illustrating the vehicle in stylized or symbolic representation, and the obstacle identified in the vehicle's immediate environment as well as its relative position with regard to the vehicle, and a rendering unit adapted to display the display image generated by the calculation unit within the vehicle and visible for the driver.

A socket joint for carrying a mirror head or indirect vision system on a support tube to be mounted to a vehicle and a mirror or indirect vision arrangement comprising such socket joint and a mirror head or indirect vision system is provided. The socket joint comprises a support tube with at least one opening to be attached to a vehicle, a joint base contacting the support tube, at least one anchor extending through said at least one opening in said support tube, and at least one fastener engaging the at least one anchor and extending through a fastening hole in the joint base into the anchor. By the engagement of the fastener in or with the anchor, the portion of the anchor located within the support tube engages an interior surface of said support tube and said support tube is clamped between anchor and joint base.

An exterior vehicle mirror assembly including an housing with a mirror glass disposed in the housing. A glass clamp connects the mirror glass and the housing. The glass clamp is slidably carried on both the mirror glass and the housing for moving between a locked position in which the glass clamp secures the mirror glass to the housing in a friction fit arrangement to resist movement of the mirror glass in the housing, and an unlocked position in which the clamp is free to be removed from the housing and mirror glass.

A spring clip carried in each of the attachment sockets releasably engaging the mounting tabs. A substrate having a light reflective coating defining a mirror surface. A first curvature included on the substrate extending across the mirror surface oriented along a first axis of curvature extending heightwise. A second curvature included on the substrate extending across the mirror surface oriented along a second axis of curvature extending widthwise. The second axis of curvature is angled relative to the first axis of curvature so that the second curvature extends across the mirror surface in a helical arrangement relative to the first axis of curvature. Accordingly, angling the second axis of curvature relative to the first axis of curvature causes the first and second curvatures to cooperate in reducing distortion across the mirror surface.

A socket joint for a mirror assembly having a first concave portion receiving a support tube that attaches to the vehicle. A pair of anchors disposed in the first concave portion extend through openings in the support tube. The anchors project outwardly from the first concave portion into the support tube. Each anchor engages an interior surface of the support tube. A fastener engages each anchor from a front side of the socket joint to clamp the support tube between the anchor and first concave portion. A central connecting post extends outward from the front side of the socket joint for cooperating with various assembly components to pivotally mount a mirror head. A second concave portion is disposed around the central connecting post which receives a complementary convex portion of the mirror head housing so that the housing can pivot on the second concave portion around the central connecting post.
