An emergency support member is provided for a vehicle wheel and tire assembly having a pneumatic tire that is mounted on a wheel rim. The support member is embodied as a dished annular member within the tire, and has an emergency support surface for supporting the tire in the event of damage thereto. The annular member extends axially from the center of the rim and symmetrically over a portion of the width thereof. The annular member has a curved contour, with the two axially outer wall regions being supported upon the wheel rim via annular support elements. The dished annular member is embodied as a split ring that is not closed over its periphery, and is provided with a closure device for closing off the slit. The closure device includes two flanges that extend essentially radially inwardly relative to the rim. The closure device also includes at least one locking clamp for connecting the flanges.

Emergency support member

Vehicle wheel includes a rim and a pneumatic tire which includes a tread, two side walls, a carcass, reinforcing elements, and two tire beads with bead cores. An emergency running support body is supported on the rim which is arranged to support one of the pneumatic tire and an interior of the tread in an event of an emergency condition. The emergency running support body includes a shell-shaped ring body located inside the pneumatic tire and an emergency running surface on its exterior. At least one container, which contains a lubricant, is positioned inside a first ring chamber. Motor vehicle wheel having a tire mounted on a rim and method of making the same. The wheel includes a ring made of a sound-absorbing material positioned inside the interior of the tire and encircling the rim. Threads are arranged to cover the ring to fix the ring to the rim. The threads are stretched over both sides of the ring one of towards or onto the rim. The method includes positioning the ring made of sound-absorbing material onto a circumferential area of the rim and stretching threads over the ring made of sound-absorbing material one of toward and onto the rim.
