A brake booster for a brake master cylinder of a motor vehicle, including a drive motor, which is connected/is connectable via a transmission to a pressure piston for the brake master cylinder, the transmission including a rotatable spindle nut having an inner thread, and a rotatably fixed axially displaceable spindle rod having an outer thread, the threads engaging with one another in order to convert a rotational movement of the drive motor into a translational movement of the spindle rod, and the spindle nut including an outer toothing, which is engaged with a toothing of a drive wheel of the transmission. It is provided that the spindle nut is displaceable axially relative to the drive wheel.

The spindle nut has an external tooth set that is in engagement with an internal tooth set of a annular drive gear of the linkage. Except for a first tooth flank of a tooth, which extends in a first axial portion in its longitudinal extent toward an oppositely located tooth flank, tooth flanks of the internal and external tooth sets extend axially.

A rotation/translation converter gear unit having a helical gear and a planetary gear for driving the helical gear. A spindle nut of the helical gear forms a planet carrier for planet wheels of the planetary gear. Situated between the planetary gear and the helical gear is an axial friction bearing, that at the same time forms a centering element which centers a sun wheel of the planetary gear between the planet wheels. In particular, the rotation/translation converter gear unit is used to drive a piston of a pressure generator for a brake control of a hydraulic vehicle brake system.
