An aircraft includes a compression system for pressurizing a cabin of the aircraft. The air compression system includes a first motor, a second motor and an inverter. The first motor compresses air at a compressor to pressurize the cabin, thereby generating heat. The second motor circulates a cooling air to cool the compressor. The inverter provides power to both the first motor and the second motor.

A system includes a permanent magnet generator (PMG) with a generator shaft. An input spline is included on the generator shaft on a first side of the PMG with respect to a longitudinal axis of the generator shaft. A brake is operatively connected to the generator shaft axially between the input spline and an end of the generator shaft on a second side of the PMG opposite the first side with respect to the longitudinal axis.

Turbogenerator brakes

An electric machine includes a stator winding in a stator having a winding end. A jumper has a main base end that is connected to the winding end. A first terminal branch of the jumper has a first terminal for connecting the stator electrically to a first load. A second terminal branch of the jumper has a second terminal for connecting the stator electrically to a second load. A first electrical conduction path is defined from the winding end, through the jumper to the first terminal branch to the first terminal. A second electrical conduction path is defined from the winding end, through the jumper to the second terminal branch to the second terminal. The first electrical conduction path has an electrical resistance substantially equal to that of the second electrical conduction path for electrical load balancing from the winding end to the first and second terminals.

Stator connection configurations

A system includes a permanent magnet generator (PMG) with a generator shaft defining a longitudinal axis. A brake system includes a brake shaft with a first end operatively connected to the generator shaft for selectively rotating with the generator shaft or braking to slow the generator shaft. A shear shaft is operatively connected to a second end of the brake shaft axially opposite the first end along the longitudinal axis. The brake system includes a wedge with a first position radially withdrawn from the brake shaft, and a second position radially pressed against the brake shaft for applying braking forces to the brake shaft and to the generator shaft.

A system includes a permanent magnet generator (PMG) with a generator shaft defining a longitudinal axis. A brake system includes a brake shaft with a first end operatively connected to the generator shaft for selectively rotating with the generator shaft or braking to slow the generator shaft. A shear shaft is operatively connected to a second end of the brake shaft axially opposite the first end along the longitudinal axis. The brake system includes a press fit sleeve engaged about the brake shaft and an actuator. The actuator is operatively connected to actuate a pawl between a first position spaced apart from the press fit sleeve for normal operation of the PMG, and a second position engaged with the press fit sleeve to apply braking forces to the press fit sleeve and to the generator shaft.

A disconnect mechanism comprises an input shaft defining a drive axis, a disconnect shaft selectively engaged with the input shaft to be driven about the drive axis by the input shaft, and a disconnect ramp operatively connected to the disconnect shaft to axially move the disconnect shaft between at least a first axial position and a second axial position. A disconnect pawl is selectively engaged with the disconnect ramp shaft, and a brake is selectively engaged with the disconnect shaft in the second axial position.

An aircraft oil management system includes a generator, pump, and pump control system. The generator is mechanically coupled to a prime mover via a the rotor shaft and is configured to output three-phase power. The pump is mechanically decoupled from the rotor shaft and delivers oil to the generator. The pump control system drives the pump independent of a rotational speed of the rotor shaft.

An exciter comprises a stator armature defining a plurality of circumferentially spaced apart winding slots separated by respective stator teeth. first exciter winding with multiple phases, a second exciter winding with multiple phases. The individual windings of the first and second exciter windings are seated in the winding slots. For each phase of each of the first and second exciter windings there are two leads configured to connect to a generator control unit (GCU).

Exciter windings for wide speed operation

An aircraft electric power generation and start system (EPGSS) includes a main machine, a starter permanent magnet generator (PMG), a generator PMG, and a carrier injection sensorless (CIS) system. The main machine selectively operates in a start mode or a generator mode. The starter PMG includes a first PMG stator and a first PMG rotor and is configured to rotate along with the shaft. The generator PMG includes a second PMG stator and a second PMG rotor configured to rotate along with the shaft. The CIS system determines one or both of a PMG voltage and a PMG current corresponding to the first PMG during the start mode, and determines a rotational position of the main rotor based on one or both of the PMG voltage and the PMG current.

Main engine start using a dual permanent magnet generator system

A power supply system includes a first saturable reactor electrically connected to a first AC phase input, to a second AC phase input, and to a third AC phase input. The first saturable reactor is electrically connected to a first DC output. A second saturable reactor is electrically connected in parallel with the first saturable reactor to the first AC phase input, to the second AC phase input, and to the third AC phase input. The second saturable reactor is electrically connected to a second DC output. A reactor controller can be operatively connected to the first saturable reactor and to the second saturable reactor to regulate DC output voltage to the first and second DC outputs.

Dual saturable reactor power supply

A generator cooling assembly is provided and includes a rotor, a generator assembly and an air-cycle machine (ACM). The generator assembly includes a generator housing, a generator housed in the generator housing and a shaft coupled to the rotor to transmit shaft power from the rotor to the generator to drive the generator. The ACM is housed in the generator housing and is receptive of air. The air is cooled by the ACM and output from the ACM to the generator as fully cooled air to cool the generator.

An electric motor system implements a redundant wye-wounded motor that includes first phase leads, second phase leads, first neutral leads, and second neutral leads. The first and second phase leads receive alternating current (AC) power from a power supply. A first phase-lead switch selectively connects the first phase leads to the power supply, and a second phase-lead switch selectively connects the second phase leads to the power supply. A first neutral-lead switch selectively connects the first neutral leads to the redundant wye-wounded motor, and a second neutral-lead switch selectively connects the second neutral leads to the redundant wye-wounded motor. A controller detects a circuit fault among a plurality of different types of circuit faults, and controls the operation of one or both of the primary neutral-lead switch and the second neutral-lead switch based on the circuit fault.
