A system and method for providing supplemental power to a notification unit of a device in a fire alarm system. The notification unit generates alert signals for indicating an alarm. The device includes a power unit for providing the supplemental power to the notification unit and a device controller for charging the power unit. The device controller charges the power unit in response to receiving a charging synchronization signal from a system controller of the system.

A system and method for detecting speech from occupants in a building management system is disclosed. Building management systems include fire alarm systems, building automation systems and security systems, in examples. Installed devices deployed within the building include audio transducers that detect speech from the occupants, and a management system panel processes the information from the installed devices and processes the detected speech from the occupants. In a fire alarm system, in one example, the fire alarm panel processes the detected speech from fire sensor devices and alarm notification devices as the installed devices. The fire alarm panel and/or its installed devices can identify commands from the detected speech for controlling and testing the fire alarm management system. In embodiments, Artificial Intelligence (AI) subsystems can be further added to the building management systems for control and information services.

An interface circuit of a sub-system of a distributed fire detection system having a plurality of sub-systems, wherein the plurality of sub-systems are in communication with each other in a loop configuration to allow data signals to be routed between said sub-systems. The interface circuit connects the internal components of a sub-system to the external bus line connecting all components via at least three input/output ports. It comprises hardware logic components, namely switches and switch controllers listening for incoming data and opening or closing said switches to cause disconnection and connection between said input/output ports accordingly, thereby allowing the routing of data signals to one or more of the other input/output ports. The simpler configurations replaces a routing processor.

Interface circuit for distributed fire alarm in loop configuration

A system and method for providing emergency alarm communications in an fire panel network having a ring topology. The fire panels of the network each include an emergency interface between a panel processor and a panel transceiver. The emergency interface includes a communication link that is different from a normal TCP/IP communication link of the associated panel. The emergency interface comprises a separate communication path from the normal communication link. When normal TCP/IP communications are interrupted, the emergency interface is operable to transmit alarm signals to an adjacent panel in the network. The alarm signals may then be transmitted between subsequently connected panels and a workstation or central monitoring station via the normal TCP/IP mode. The workstation and/or central monitoring station can recognize the alarm signals as being generated by the originating panel. Other embodiments are disclosed and claimed.
