In accordance with the present disclosure there is provided an angioplasty catheter system and method for using such angioplasty catheter system that facilitates controllably delivering focalized pressure to complex lesions. The angioplasty catheter comprises an elongated member having a proximal end, a distal end, and at least one lumen extending at least partially through the elongated member, and an inflatable member proximally affixed to the elongated member adjacent to the distal end and in fluid communication with the at least one lumen, the inflatable member having a radius R and including at least two lobes (), the at least two lobes separated from each other by one or more waist portion () defined by two legs () and a waist portion length () such that upon pressurization, radial stress around the waist portion is directed away from the vessel wall and focalized into the lesion at an angle about perpendicular to the legs () of the upper and lower base of the waist portion () creating variable directional forces from to () to (') resulting in the preferential formation of lesion fractures at the waist of the inflatable member.

The current document is directed to length-adjustable catheters and methods that employ length-adjustable catheters to treat malformations, constrictions, obstructions, lesions, and blockages within patients' blood vessels.
