A spark plug with a longitudinal axis. The spark plug includes a housing; an insulator disposed at least partly inside the housing; a center electrode disposed at least partly inside the insulator and having a base body and a first ignition element; and at least one ground electrode disposed inside the housing and having a base body and a second ignition element. The ground electrode and the center electrode are disposed such they form a spark gap which extends radially with respect to the spark plug longitudinal axis. A surface of the first ignition element of the center electrode which serves as ignition surfaces and a surface of the second ignition element of the ground electrode which serves as ignition surfaces are flat surfaces. A width of the spark gap is not greater than 0.3 mm, and the spark gap is formed inside the housing.

A pre-chamber spark plug includes (i) a middle electrode with a first noble metal body which has a first end spark face, (ii) a ground electrode with a second noble metal body which has a second end spark face, (iii) a housing, with the ground electrode being fixed in the housing, (iv) an insulator which electrically insulates the middle electrode with respect to the ground electrode, and (v) a cap, which together with a part of the housing, defines a pre-chamber. The first end spark face and the second end spark face are arranged oppositely at a distance from one another.

A pre-chamber spark plug. The pre-chamber spark plug includes a housing, a pre-chamber, a cap that closes the pre-chamber on the housing and that has one or more through-openings, and an ignition device situated in the pre-chamber. The cap has a cap base and a cap jacket. The cap jacket and a housing inner wall of the housing defines a pre-chamber inner wall. The pre-chamber is defined by the pre-chamber inner wall and the cap base. At least one rib projects into the pre-chamber is formed in the region of the pre-chamber inner wall.

Spark plug having long service life

An electrode for a spark plug includes an electrode base material and a noble metal element, the noble metal element being fastened to the electrode base material using a welding connection. The welding connection has a maximum extension perpendicular to an area of the electrode at which the noble metal element is fastened, and the welding connection has a maximum width at the area. A ratio of the maximum extension to the maximum width is greater than, or equal to 3.

A spark plug including a housing as a ground contact to an internal combustion engine, a center electrode situated in the housing along a center axis of the spark plug, an insulator between the center electrode and the housing, and a two-legged ground electrode whose legs are located on the combustion chamber side of the center electrode and angled with respect to one another in a leg plane which is perpendicular to the center axis, the two ends of the ground electrode being connected to the housing respectively by one connection point, a first gap between one end of the housing on the combustion chamber side and the leg plane being smaller than or equal to a second gap between one of the connection points and the center axis, and/or the ground electrode being tapered toward the center axis.

A spark plug includes: a center electrode, a ground electrode, which is side-mounted on the center electrode, and a noble metal insert, which is situated on the center electrode. The noble metal insert is situated in a cutout provided in a base material of the center electrode and connected in a continuous material to the base material of the center electrode. The noble metal insert is directed with one surface towards the side-mounted ground electrode.

A method is described for applying a pin made of a spark-erosion-resistant material, in particular of noble metal, onto a electrode base element. In order to achieve a large pin surface exposed to spark erosion, without increased material outlay for the pin, the pin is placed with one end surface onto the electrode base element and welded to it. The welded-on pin is then, by application of a compressive force engaging at the exposed end surface of the pin and directed toward the electrode base element, upset to a larger diameter.

A spark plug includes at least one ground electrode with a reduced temperature level. The spark plug encompasses a tubular metallic housing that has, at the combustion-chamber end, an outer rim on which at least one ground electrode is positioned. The cross-sectional area of the at least one ground electrode increases toward the outer rim of the housing.
