Systems and methods for controlling uplink (UL) power allocation in a user equipment (UE) operating in a communication network are provided. The method includes: selecting between at least a first UL power allocation technique and a second power allocation technique for use in the UE; and using the selected power allocation technique in the UE to transmit uplink data by allocating transmit power between at least two carriers on which the uplink data is transmitted.

Methods and systems for uplink power allocation techniques in multicarrier scenarios

The present disclosure relates to a method and user equipment, UE, in a wireless communication network of performing power scaling on uplink transmission to a receiving radio access node, RAN. In particular, the disclosure relates to a method and user equipment for power scaling on uplink transmissions on a multi-radio access bearer, multi-RAB, wherein a Dedicated Physical Data Channel, DPDCH, and enhanced Data Channels, E-DCHs are configured for uplink transmission from the UE to the receiving RAN. The method comprises determining a total UE transmit power exceeding a predetermined maximum power limit value. The total UE transmit power is reduced to the predetermined maximum power limit value by reducing one or more E-DPDCH gain factors by an equal scaling factor. When a predetermined minimum E-DPDCH gain factor, 'smallest quantised &#x3b2;ed,k value', is reached for all E-DPDCH gain factors &#x3b2;ed,k, and DTX is applied for all E-DPDCHs, the method comprises applying DTX on E-DPCCH.

Method and device of performing multi-radio access bearer power scaling

The present disclosure relates to a method and user equipment, UE, in a wireless communication network of performing power scaling on uplink transmission to a receiving radio access node, RAN. In particular, the disclosure relates to a method and user equipment for power scaling on a multi-radio access bearer, multi-RAB, wherein a Dedicated Physical Data Channel, DPDCH, and an enhanced Dedicated Physical Data Channel, E-DPDCH are configured for uplink transmission from the UE to the receiving RAN. The method comprises determining (S) a total UE transmit power exceeding a predetermined maximum power limit value. The total UE transmit power is reduced (S) to the predetermined maximum power limit value by reducing one or more E-DPDCH gain factors by an equal scaling factor. A DPDCH transmission status is determined (S), whereupon a power scaling procedure is selected (S) based on the determined DPDCH transmission status. The selected power scaling procedure is applied (S) on the uplink transmission.

It is presented a power controller which is adapted to be coupled to a fixed node of a cellular network, wherein at least one user equipment is adapted to be associated with the fixed node. The power controller comprises: a signal to interference ratio, SIR, determiner arranged to determine a maximum SIR target for each of the at least one user equipment, which maximum SIR target is arranged to limit maximum transmission power of the at least one user equipment; wherein the determiner determines a maximum SIR target for each of the at least one user equipment directly or indirectly based on the number of user equipments in the cell of each respective user equipment. A corresponding method, computer program and computer program product are also presented.

Determining a maximum SIR target for power control in a cellular network

A telecommunication system comprises a radio network controller (RNC), and a Node-B (NB) for enabling wireless communication with a user terminal (UE). The RNC establishes an enhanced dedicated transport channel (E-DCH) which enables uplink data traffic with a determined maximum data rate from the user terminal (UE) to the NB. The RNC further establishes a high speed DL shared channel (HS-DSCH) which enables downlink data traffic with a determined maximum data rate from the NB to the user terminal. The NB comprises a HSDPA scheduler (HS-S) scheduling the data rate for the DL data traffic via the HS-DSCH and a EUL scheduler (EUL-S) scheduling the maximum data rate for the UL data traffic via the E-DCH. The NB exchanges data rate information between the HS-S and the EUL-S. Furthermore, the NB monitors the quotient (Q) between DL data rate and the UL data rate. When Q fulfils determined traffic conditions the HSDPA scheduler (HS-S) and/or the EUL scheduler (EUL-S) changes the allocation and/or the priority handling of the UL and/or the DL resources.

Allocation and priority handling of uplink and downlink resources

The present invention relates to a method for grant violation detection in an enhanced uplink (UL) telecommunication system. According to the method a radio network controller (RNC) establishes a first enhanced UL transport channel (E-DCH) which enables uplink data traffic with a certain data rate from a user terminal UE at least to a first base station. At least a first downlink transmission is performed to the user terminal UE including a first E-DCH. A Node B NB detects the scheduled data rate on which the user terminal UE transmits and further controls if the scheduled data rate detected is higher than the maximum data rate defined by the first E-DCH channel scheduled grant. If this is the case the Node B NB performs at least a second following downlink transmission including the first E-DCH channel scheduled grant.

Enhanced UL rate violation detection

A method for power control in an enhanced uplink telecommunication system is disclosed. The power for an uplink DPCCH in a first E-DCH is controlled by a base station. The base station and a user calculate power for an E-DPDCH in the first E-DCH based on a power offset configuration and absolute grant provided by the base station. The user terminal transmits the uplink data traffic on the first E-DCH with the controlled DPCCH power and the calculated E-DPDCH power. When the base station and the user terminal detect that the E-DPDCH absolute grant is different from a grant threshold, the base station changes a SIR target value. The first base station and the first user terminal compensate the change by recalculating the E-DPDCH power, reflecting both the changed DPCCH power resulting from the changed SIR target value and the improvement due to optimized channel estimation.

DPCCH and HS-DPCCH control at low grants for E-DCH

The present invention relates in general to the radio communications field and, in particular, to a method and apparatus for detecting congestion in a spread spectrum Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) cellular communication system. By measuring the number of Signal-to-Interference Ratio Error reports being received at the Radio Network Controller a potential congestion can be detected in the cell when the number of reports being received is above a threshold. Further can a differentiation be made between a potential or a serious congestion and different actions be performed dependant on if a potential or a serious congestion is detected.

Method and apparatus in a telecommunication system

The downlink transmit powers of base stations involved in a diversity handover communication with a mobile station are controlled to minimize base station power &ldquo;drift.&rdquo; A downlink reference power level is determined based on detected, current transmit power levels of the diversity handover base stations. One or more power offsets is determined for one or more of the base stations based on signal quality measurements made by the mobile station. The reference power level and power offset(s) are used to selectively regulate an adjustment to the transmit power levels of the diversity handover base stations. The general reference power is transmitted at a first, relatively high frequency to the diversity handover base stations by embedding it in a user data frame. In that way, the signal processing load is kept to a minimum despite the higher transmission rate. Individual power offsets are sent to associated individual base stations in a control signalling channel identifying the one base station at a second frequency lower than the first frequency. The control channel signaling permits individual base station power offsets, but the lower frequency at which the offsets are transmitted reduces the associated signaling load.

Downlink transmit power synchronization during diversity communication with a mobile station

A power control system method for controlling the downlink (DL) transmit power from a base station (BS) to a mobile station (MS) in a cellular telecommunications network. A power balancing value &Dgr;P is divided into a number of smaller correction implements which are distributed over a plurality of spaced apart slots for DL power control. For example, if it is desired to correct DL transmit power by six dB, a total of six different correction values of one dB each may be implemented with adjacent ones of the correction values being spaced apart by a number of slots. The distribution or spreading of DL transmit power corrections over a period of time results in a plurality of smaller corrections as opposed to one or a few large corrections, thereby reducing potential adverse effects on the inner loop power control of the network.

Downlink power control in a cellular telecommunications network

To combat base station power drift, the power transmission level of each base station in a diversity handover may be compared to a power reference established for all base stations in the diversity handover. The difference between the transmit power of each base station and the reference power threshold may then be used to correct the transmit power level of that base station. Because the power correction depends on the difference between the actual transmit power at the base station and the common power level reference, the various transmit powers of the different base stations in the diversity handover converge relatively quickly. Thus, even if the transmit power command from the mobile station is received in error in one or more of the base stations, the power correction based on the comparison to the common power reference compensates for such errors to reduce base station drift, obtain full diversity gain, and reduce unnecessary downlink interference. The reference power level(s) used in compensating for base station power drift is(are) advantageously determined using one or more parameters relevant to the current condition of the diversity handover communication. Rather than setting an arbitrary and static reference power level, the reference power level is set dynamically so that it is relevant to the current conditions of the diversity handover communication. Dynamic and adaptive reference power level setting results in more effective and more efficient downlink power control. Unnecessary power changes, both in frequency and in size, are avoided because the reference power level is more accurately determined for the current circumstances.
