Reticular structures comprising one or more fibrillated films perpendicularly arranged between two or more fibrillated films are prepared by a process comprising the steps of: feeding one or more fibrillated films onto a conveyor; feeding one or more transversal films perpendicularly to the conveyor feed direction; cutting such transversal films in position corresponding to the edges of the base film or films; suporposing to said transversal films one or more fibrillated films fed parallelly to the conveyor feed direction and causing the cohesion of the resulting composite structure. Process for the netlike opening of fibrilled polymeric films, said process consisting in conveying to an opening device of the conventional type (based, for instance, on diverging transferring elements and on lateral film pulling elements such as clamps, grippers or pins, which engage the film at its edges and which are fixed on said traverse elements) the fibrilled film of an undulated or corrugated shape, with the front of the corrugations or waves perpendicular to the direction of the transferring motion, so that the length of the film between the lateral consecutive pulling elements be in excess with respect to the distance between said elements, wherefore said excess will compensate the longitudinal shrinkage that the film will suffer during the transversal opening.

A process is provided for continuously manufacturing plates containing an open net fibrillated polymeric film reinforcement. A net having a plurality of fibrillated polymeric film layers is unwound from a continuous reel, and the net is cut into pieces having a length approximately equal to a circumference of a forming roll for forming a plate to be manufactured. The net pieces are impregnated with a cement mix and then deposited onto a conveyor belt on which a cement mix layer has been previously deposited. After contacting the net with the cement layer, the net is subjected to vibration. A vacuum is applied to the net contacting the cement layer to remove excess water and to increase the compactness between the net and the cement layer. The net-cement panel resulting from the above is wound onto the forming roll, which has a circumference approximately equal to the length of the net piece, with simultaneous application of pressure, so that the ends of the net piece are disposed adjacent to a notch located at a periphery of the forming roll. The net-cement panel is cut at the notch adjacent to which the ends of the net pieces are arranged to form a plate, and finally the plate is compressed.

There are disclosed a process for the continuous production of open, composite reticulated structures consisting of at least two superimposed or overlapping fibrilled films of synthetic polymers, and apparatus for effecting the transversal opening or stretching (with respect to the slitting or fibrilling direction) of a fibrilled film or of a combination of at least two superimposed fibrilled films and which comprises a feeding system for the fibrilled film, a pair of diverging guides each closing upon itself in the form of a ring for transverse stretching of the film, a series of clamps sliding on guides for gripping the edges of the film or film assembly, means for feeding the clamps to the guides, a series of two pulling means for engaging the clamps, means for opening the clamps and dragging them along the guides to the feeding devices, and means for take-up of the open film or the assembly of open films.
