Deploying a software service. A defined software service offering is selected from a plurality of defined software service offerings. An instantiation order for deploying the selected defined software service offering on a corresponding computer system is generated. Each defined software service offering comprises a software service definition and at least one defined software policy. One selected from the group consisting of the software service definition, the software policy, and a combination thereof, provides a hardware configuration for the software service, a software configuration for the software service, and a managing policy for the software service. The instantiation order of the software service for execution on the computer system is created based on the hardware configuration, the software configuration and the managing policy.

Method, arrangement, computer program product and data processing program for deploying a software service

A system for provisioning service environments (SEs) and resources includes a component for creating and handling state change events and a parts catalog including descriptions of SEs, variable federated resources, aggregated, and basic resources. The system further includes a planner component for generating plans for construction and destruction of SEs and plans for creation, addition, removal and destruction of every aggregated resource to or from the SEs. The planner component has an interface to the parts catalog and an interface to a global dynamic free pool manager. The global dynamic free pool manager is configured for dynamically constructing and destructing dynamic free pool managers with their assigned dynamic free pools including dynamically changing their capacities.

System, method and computer program product for provisioning of resources and service environments

The present invention provides a system, method, and computer program product to accelerate provisioning by dynamically creating dynamic free pools (DFPs) of pre-provisioned resources that are provisioned in advance, and are ready and free for use. A DFP construct for a resource, and its associated dynamic free pool manager are generated dynamically from a formal description of an aggregated resource structure (e.g. in the form of an XML schema). The present invention also provides a system, method, and computer program product to improve the delivery time of SEs based on the DFP constructs. The methods are extended to deal with special conditions such as contention over resources, or critical delivery time.

A method of collecting usage data of an on-demand service provided to a subscriber is disclosed. The method comprises provisioning of a first manageable resource in order to provide the on-demand service to the subscriber, the first manageable resource being associated with at least a first underlying resource, the first underlying resource comprising a first collector for collecting first usage data of the first underlying resource while the on-demand service is provided. Further, a first metering component is instantiated for the first manageable resource and the first metering component is instructed to initiate the retrieval of the first usage data from the first collector prior to the termination of the first metering component and the de-provisioning of the first manageable resource. Additionally, the retrieved first usage data is stored for further evaluation.

Method and data processing system for collecting usage data of an on-demand service

The method includes the steps of retrieving a metric definition from a declarative metrics specification, obtaining a list of computing nodes from a database that are currently assigned to the metric definition, obtaining resource data provided by the computing nodes in the list of computing nodes and determining the metric of system performance based on the metric definition and the resource data. The computing nodes in the list of computing nodes are nodes of a cluster of nodes having a dynamically varying node count.

Mechanism and system for programmable measurement of aggregate metrics from a dynamic set of nodes

A method of providing access to Business Applications (BA) executed on a data processing system, BAs offer their services interactively controlled by a multitude of BA panels. The individual panels, the sequence of the panels as they are displayed by the BA, and the activities required to launch a BA to display a succeeding panel are described. Describing the panels results in a directed graph modeling the spectrum of panel interactions with a BA called a User Interaction Graph (UIG). By analyzing the UIG Transaction Methods (TM) is generated. When called, the TM procedures are capable of autonomously executing and controlling the BAs by handling a sequence of BA panels. They autonomously fill the various BA panels with the correct input information, initiate the required activities for traversing through a certain panel sequence and return the output information gathered during its execution.

Methodology for generating accessing functions for programmed execution of panel-driven business applications

The inventive offering creation and validation (OCAV) component identifies all available resource types contained in a resource catalog, invokes a 'get timetable' resource management action for each of those resource types, and finally receives a timetable containing all resource types with their assigned resources and their assigned free, reserved, and used time slots. By using that timetable, the OCAV component generates a new timetable including all resource types with their assigned resources having a common free time slots. Then, the OCAV component invokes a 'get cost' resource management action for each resource type in that new timetable and assigns the calculated costs to the respective resource types, resulting in a final timetable. In further step, the OCAV component maps the free resource included in that final timetable to predefined service environments described in the resource catalog, and if the mapping has been successful, creates a list including all predefined service environments including their free time slots and costs. Finally, the OCAV component generates an offering for each of those SEs, assigns a price to each offering which is preferably calculated by certain business rules, and publishes it, preferably in a registry.

Method for dynamically and automatically setting up offerings for IT services

A method of providing access to Business Applications (BA) offering their services and interactively controlled by a multitude of BA panels, the BAs displaying succeeding BA panels dependent on user interactions, user specified data and the contents of any kind of data base the BA is operating on. The individual panels, the sequence of the panels as they are displayed by the BA and the activities required to launch a BA to display a succeeding panel results in a User Interaction Graph (UIB) modeling the spectrum of panel interactions with a BA. Analyzing the UIB generates Transaction Methods (TM) for autonomously executing and controlling a sequence of BA panels which, with the correct input information Passed over the TMs, initiate the required activities for traversing through a certain panel sequence and returning the output information gathered during its execution.
