One example discloses a current limited power device, including: a switch; an output coupled to the switch; a sensor coupled to sense a voltage across a parasitic diode within the switch; and an output current limiter circuit coupled to reduce a output current (Iout) from the output of the power device if the voltage across the parasitic diode exceeds a threshold level.

Current limited power device

A portable control loop is provided for current sensing DC-DC converter. The DC-DC converter includes a power circuit, an external circuit, a control circuit and a duty cycle integration circuit. The power circuit comprises at least one controllable switch to regulate current from an input voltage. The external circuit comprises at least one output inductor and a capacitor. The duty cycle integration circuit receives a voltage differential signal across the output inductor and generates a compensation signal based at least on the voltage differential signal. The control circuit receives the compensation signal and feedback from load voltage and generates a control signal to control the controllable switch within the power circuit.

Method for portable sensor-less DC-DC converter control loops

Systems, devices and methods using three separate switching phases for a buck-boost regulator are disclosed. The regulator may operate in a boost mode, a buck mode or in a buck-boost mode. The output voltage remains constant through mode changes and the ripple voltage is well-controlled. If the input voltage is lower than the output voltage by a first threshold, the regulator operates in boost (step-up) mode. If the input voltage is higher than the output voltage by a second threshold, it operates in buck (step-down) mode. The regulator operates in the buck-boost mode when the difference between the input and output voltages is within a certain range.

Three phases controller for buck-boost regulators

A clamp circuit generates a current limit for a DC-DC converter including an inductor. The clamp circuit includes a circuit to generate a control signal based on a sensed inductor current signal and a current limit signal for the DC-DC converter. A variable current source adjusts a first current signal based on the control signal. A transistor includes a control terminal, a first terminal and a second terminal. The variable current source outputs the first current signal to the control terminal of the transistor. The first terminal of the transistor outputs a clamp voltage signal.

Current limit circuit for DC-DC converter

A compensator circuit includes a first transconductance amplifier to convert an input voltage to a first output current. A second transconductance amplifier converts the input voltage to a second output current. A buffer includes an input and an output. The input of the buffer receives the second output current. A resistance is connected between an output of the first transconductance amplifier and an output of the buffer. A capacitance connected (i) between an output of the second transconductance amplifier and a terminal at a reference potential, and (ii) between the input of the buffer and the terminal. An output voltage of the compensator circuit is based on the first output current and is a voltage across the resistance, the buffer and the capacitance.

Zero-pole compensator circuits with impedance reduction multipliers

Systems and methods for generating a compensating ramp for a DC-DC converter having fixed frequency current mode control architecture are adaptive to an input voltage of the converter and an output voltage of the converter, and are programmable based on an inductor of the converter. The systems and methods include receiving the input voltage and the output voltage of the converter and outputting, based on the input voltage and the output voltage, a voltage reference or a current reference. The systems and methods include generating a voltage ramp based on the voltage reference or the current reference. A conversion gain associated with converting the voltage ramp to a compensating ramp current is set based on a user input corresponding to an inductance value of the inductor.

Optimal compensating ramp generator for fixed frequency current mode DC-DC converters

A system includes a feedback module that communicates with a capacitor connected across an output of a power converter and that generates a feedback voltage indicating a pre-bias voltage across the capacitor before power is supplied to the power converter. A comparator compares the feedback voltage to a reference voltage and determines whether the pre-bias voltage across the capacitor is greater or less than a desired output voltage of the power converter when power is supplied to the power converter. A ramp generator module generates a first or second ramp if the pre-bias voltage is less or greater than the desired output voltage. A control module drives high-side and low-side switches to charge or discharge the capacitor from the pre-bias voltage to the desired output voltage based on the first or second ramp and controls the power converter after a voltage across the capacitor reaches the desired output voltage.

System and method to soft-start synchronous buck converters

An analog to digital detector circuit includes a comparator circuit and a counter that generates a digital counter value. A digital to analog converter receives an inverse of the digital counter value of the counter and generates a first voltage. A variable current source receives the digital counter value of the counter and generates a first current.
