A method is described for controlling a shared resource for interconnecting two or more network domains being controlled by different Managers. Multiple Managers control the shared resource for the configuration of a segment of a connection between two different domains and the Managers cooperate in order to control dynamically the shared resource. Different network domains can be connected by a network element or by a link between different network elements belonging to the different network domains. In the first case the shared resource is a connection matrix of the network element, in the second case the shared resource includes the connection matrixes of the different network elements and the link between the network elements. A shared connection matrix includes some connection points for performing the cross-connections within the matrix: some connection points are controlled by one Manager, other connection points are controlled by another Manager and some shared connection points are controlled by both Managers. Multiple Managers control the shared resource by reading and writing information stored into a management information base, according to an explicit or implicit mode, or alternatevely by transmitting messages in the network directly between the Managers, according to a signalling protocol.

Shared resources in a multi manager environment

A method is described for checking deadlock in a telecommunication network including a first activated backup connection for protecting traffic over a first intended connection. The method includes the steps of checking a reversion blocked status of the first intended connection by checking if the segments of the first intended connection are available or not available, in case of detecting the reversion blocked status of the first intended connection identifying activated backup connections using the not available segments of the first intended connection, identifying the corresponding intended connections, checking the reversion blocked status of each identified corresponding intended connection by checking if the corresponding segments are available or not available, in case of detecting the reversion blocked status of an identified corresponding intended connection checking if a corresponding not available segment is included in the first backup connection. The method further provides the indication of the intended connections involved in the deadlock.

Deadlock detection in a telecommunication network

Described is a method for managing the traffic protection in OMS-SPRING networks and allowing the wavelength allocation change in the traffic transit nodes. The method of managing the traffic protection in an OMS-SPRING network should a span of the path fail is characterized in that it comprises the steps of providing a wavelength interchange mechanism; performing a ring Span Switch action by the OMS-SP mechanism; and re-routing the wavelength interchanged path on the protecting wavelength corresponding to the working wavelength of the span affected by a failure.

Method of managing the traffic protection in OMS-SPRING networks

A method of managing time slot interchange in transoceanic MS-SPRING networks. The method, in case of ring failure in a single span of the path installed in a transoceanic MS-SP RING with Time Slot Interchange (TSI) mechanism, comprises the step of carrying out a ring switch action by the MS-SP mechanism, and is characterized by comprising the step of re-routing the path in the time slot of the low-priority channels corresponding to the time slot of the high-priority channels of the failured span. The method according to the invention further provides for the managing of double-failure or multi-failure cases resulting in one or more nodes being isolated.

Method of managing time-slot interchange in transoceanic MS-SPRING networks

A method of identifying the current route of paths on communications MS-SPRINGs is described. The method comprises the steps of providing the network manager with information relating to the Nominal Route of the at least one path; and providing the management system with information of current status of the at least one network element, and being characterized by comprising the steps of processing the information provided through steps a) and b) so as to calculate the current route of the at least one path. The invention further concerns a network manager able to carry out the various steps of the method.
