A laser diode module is described herein. In accordance with a first exemplary embodiment, the laser diode module includes a first semiconductor die including at least one electronic switch, and a second semiconductor die including at least one laser diode. The second semiconductor die is bonded on the first semiconductor die using a chip-on-chip connecting technology to provide electrical connection between the electronic switch and the laser diode.

For example, a circuit includes a switching device, where the switching device is electrically connected to an LED of the plurality of LEDs, and where the switching device is configured to control whether the LED receives an electrical signal from a power source. Additionally, the circuit includes processing circuitry configured to receive a photocurrent signal indicative of a photocurrent value corresponding to the LED, compare the photocurrent value with a threshold photocurrent value, and control, based on the comparison of the photocurrent value with the threshold photocurrent value, an output current of the LED.

In accordance with a first exemplary embodiment the driver circuit includes a first electronic switch connected to an output node that is configured to be operably connected to a laser diode. This disclosure is directed to techniques for efficiently driving multiple light emitting diode (LED) strings from a single regulated source. The techniques of this disclosure may utilize a switched capacitor DC-to-DC converter between the regulated source and the LED string. The switched capacitor (SC) converter may have multiple gain levels to efficiently match the drive voltage from the regulated source to the LED string voltage for each particular LED string. In some examples, the SC converter may have multiple gain levels such that the SC converter may deliver an LED string voltage that is approximately a multiple of the number of LEDs in the LED string. Using capacitor components in an SC converter may have the advantages of small size and low cost.

A circuit can be used for controlling a plurality of LEDs coupled in series. A switching converter operates as a current source coupled to the plurality of LEDs to provide a constant load current thereto. The switching converter includes an inductor coupled in series with the plurality of LEDs such that the same load current flows through the inductor and the plurality of LEDs. No substantial capacitance is coupled between the inductor and the plurality of LEDs. A floating driver circuit is coupled in parallel with each individual LED of the plurality of LEDs. According to some examples, this disclosure describes a device that includes at least one LED matrix that includes a plurality of LED elements. According to these examples, the device controls the LED elements of the LED matrix to output the light by causing at least a first LED element of the LED matrix to output light of a first intensity, and causing a second LED element of the LED matrix to output light of a second, different intensity. In some examples, the device controls the first at least one LED element to output light of the first intensity to illuminate a first object, and controls the second LED element to output light of the second intensity to illuminate a second object. The second object may have a different location than the first object.
