A folding joint for attaching a rear view display device to a vehicle includes one or more hinge sections each of which is adapted to rotate relative to the vehicle, with each of the one or more hinge sections having a first end and a second end, and a biasing element comprising a spring, a coil, a wave spring, or other elastic member for biasing at least one of the one or more hinge sections in response to rotation of the folding joint, with the biasing element biasing at least one of a spring biased cam section and a biased clamping bolt. An external rear view display device for a vehicle may include the folding joint, and a vehicle may include two external rear view display devices.

A module system for a motor vehicle includes at least one camera pod adapted to be mounted to the motor vehicle at least temporarily extending to the outside and/or from an exterior surface, with said camera pod including at least one camera and at least one port for fitting at least one modular peripheral device and/or adapter of a peripheral device; and at least one interface module adapted to be mounted to the motor vehicle at least temporarily extending into the inside and/or being accessible from the inside, with the interface module being electrically connected to the at least one camera pod. An exterior rearview system for an autonomous vehicle includes a housing adapted for mounting to an exterior side of a vehicle, the housing holding at least one of a reflective element or display screen for displaying to a driver a rear or side image of the vehicle, one or more lighting modules disposed in the housing and providing an adaptive lighting sector which is adaptively controlled, and a control system configured to receive input data related to at least one of a user's intention using a tracking sensor and a user's retaking control of the autonomous vehicle.

A folding joint for attaching a rear view device includes a first hinge section, a second hinge section, the first and second hinge sections being adapted to rotate relative to each other around an axis of rotation, at least one detent or recessed surface including two depressions or recesses, a spring biased cam section which is adapted to interact with the at least one detent or recessed surface for adjustably locking the rotational movement of the first and second hinge sections relative to each other, a hinge pin at least in part coinciding with the axis of rotation, the hinge pin being adapted to rotatably connect the first and second hinge sections, and including a guide pin extending essentially perpendicularly from the hinge pin, and a spring biased clamping bolt arranged on the guide pin.

An adaptive cornering light system for a motor vehicle includes an exterior mirror head, housing at least one lighting module that having a plurality of LEDs arranged in sectors to provide different lighting functionalities. One LED or light sector is provided for adaptively illuminating a cornering area that extends along the side of the vehicle toward the front of the exterior mirror head. This 'cornering LED' is adaptively activated if the speed of the vehicle is below a threshold speed, or in response to additional optional parameters such as steering angle, turn-signal blinker activation, and running lights activation. Another LED or light sector may be used as a security light to illuminate or display a message on the ground in the door area adjacent the side of the vehicle. Interior lights are also disclosed. User input may also control options for illumination.
