The invention is directed to a smoothing iron having a shoe and a soleplate, in which the shoe and the soleplate are joined to each other by an adhesive. The spacing between the shoe and the soleplate varies across the shoe. The space between the shoe and the soleplate is filled with the adhesive. No prior mechanical treatment or heating of the shoe and/or the soleplate is required.

An electric pressing iron in which a plate-shaped soleplate made of an aluminum material with a low silicon content is bonded to the iron body by a temperature-resistant adhesive, wherein the surface of the soleplate is provided with a hard and wear-resistant aluminum oxide coating. Because the soleplate is made of an aluminum material with a low silicon content, anodizing produces an aluminum oxide coating of a particularly uniform coloring, with a temperature-resistant as well as corrosion- and scratch-resistant ironing surface that affords particular economy of manufacture.

The invention is directed to a smoothing iron having an approximately triangular metal soleplate including a sliding surface 4 and an edge area 6 encircling the sliding surface and overlapping it partially. The edge area 6 is bent in an upward and inward direction at an angle of 35.degree., maximum, relative to the sliding surface 4. At the tips of the triangle, the edge area includes a slot 8 formed by the side edges of a notch cut in the blanked metal soleplate. The edge area is angled by a forming operation involving several steps.

A soleplate for a steam iron includes a plurality of beads. Each bead incorporates therein at least two steam outlet openings. The steam outlet openings located on the side close to the outer edge of the soleplate are larger than the steam outlet openings located on the side remote from the outer edge of the soleplate. The larger steam outlet openings are arranged in the front portion of the soleplate, with the smaller steam outlet openings arranged in the rear portion. The number of steam outlet openings per bead increases towards the pointed end of the soleplate.

The invention is directed to a bread toaster with a removable crumb tray, including devices which prevent operation of the bread toaster when the crumb tray is not inserted and, secondly, which ensure that operation of the bread toaster is stopped when the crumb tray is removed during toasting.

The invention is directred to an electric heating in a bread toaster, comprising an insulating body (11) and heat conductor portions (14, 14') which may be arranged on both the front part and the back of the insulating body (11) and are pressed thereagainst by mounting strips (21). To compensate for uneven browning of the article to be toasted--which is caused by the bread toaster being cooled by an air current entering at its bottom and subsequently flowing mainly in the area of the center axis (X) of the insulating body (11)--, it is suggested to provide the mounting strips (21) on the insulating body (11) spaced from one center aixs (X) and thus substantially outside the range of action of the air current. In heating units referred to as center heating units in which the heat conductor portions (14, 14')--separated only by the insulating body (11)--cross each other along the center axis (X), high thermal loads and the attendant risks of scorching of the insulating body (11) and of electric short circuits are avoided by the invention.

Electric heating means for a bread toaster

A heating unit, in particular for bread toasters, with a useful heat emitting area (2) and a waste heat emitting area (12), comprising an insulating body (1) and a heat conductor wound thereon. In bread toasters the efficiency of such heating units is considered unsatisfactory, and undue heating of the housing occurs since the radiation of heat in the waste heat emitting area is not directed to the material being toasted but to the housing walls. To avoid this shortcoming, it is proposed to short-circuit the heat conductor portions (12) extending in the waste heat emitting area.
