An approach is provided for providing a map view that compliments an augmented reality view while a user navigates and interacts within a scene. A mapping platform determines a virtual floor surface of at least one presentation of a perspective-based display of location information. A mapping platform causes, at least in part, a rendering of a partial map view on the virtual floor surface, wherein the partial map view provides an alternate view of the location information.

Method and apparatus for transitioning from a partial map view to an augmented reality view

An approach is provided for providing an interactive perspective-based point of interest layout in an augmented reality view. A method may include evaluating a feature space representation of an image for presence of a predefined feature pattern. A method, apparatus and computer program product are provided to cause a visual representation of a plurality of objects representative of respective physical structures to be provided with the height of at least one of the objects being modified, thereby visually accentuating the object(s). In regards to a method, one or more objects representative of respective physical structures are identified from among a plurality of objects. The plurality of objects therefore include first object(s) that were identified and second object(s) that were not identified. Each object has an associated height. The method may also modify the height associated with at least one of the objects such that a height differential between the first objects and the second objects is altered. The method may also cause a visual representation of the plurality of objects to be provided with at least one of the objects having a modified height.

Method and apparatus for visually representing objects with a modified height

A method, apparatus and computer program product are provided to provide an efficient, aesthetically pleasing display of points of interest in an AR interface that maximizes usability and display efficiency. In this regard, the method, apparatus and computer program product may utilize a mobile terminal to perform pre-processing of interface elements to reduce display clutter and increase efficiency of display processing. Interface elements may be projected onto a cylindrical surface to locate the interface elements relative to the mobile terminal. Three dimensional coordinates for the interface elements may be derived from the cylindrical projection. A perspective grid may provide a user of the device with a frame of reference to interact with the display and interface elements displayed thereon. Display elements may further conform to input operations performed by a user to interact with the AR interface.

Method and apparatus for displaying interface elements

A method is provided for visualizing both sides of a street based on imagery generated from panoramic street views. In particular, example methods may include directing presentation of a first panoramic view representing a first side of a street, and directing presentation of a second panoramic view representing a second side of the street. The first and second panoramic views may be presented in a street view in a perspective representation where a bottom of the first panoramic view and a bottom of the second panoramic view may be foreshortened relative to a top of each respective panoramic view, and where the bottom of each of the first panoramic view and the second panoramic view are located on either side of a representation of the street. The first panoramic view and the second panoramic view may each be formed of at least two image segments stitched together.
