A one way clutch assembly, including a frame, a bearing member having a vertical, central bore therein fixedly secured to the frame, a pulley rotatably mounted on the bearng member, a vertical, drive spindle rotatably mounted within the bearing member central bore, a retainer fixedly secured on the lower protruding end of the bearing member, a circular cam plate rotatably mounted on the retainer, the cam plate having an interior camming surface for effecting radially inward and outward movement and an arcuate recess, a mounting stud fixedly secured to and projecting upwardly from the pulley through the arcuate recess in the cam plate, a pawl rotatably mounted at one end on the mounting stud and having a pin at the other end extending into the interior camming surface of the cam plate, wherein the pawl is movable radially inwardly and outwardly by the interior camming surface, and a ratchet plate fixedly mounted on the lower end of the drive spindle for rotation therewith, the ratchet plate having a plurality of ratchet teeth for engagement and disengagement with the pawl.

One-way clutch assembly with pawl and ratchet

In a tape recording machine having a capstan drive system for driving the tape, an improved slip clutch for allowing the take up reel to be driven at a variable rotational speed while the capstan is driven at a uniform rotational speed. The slip clutch includes a driven spindle, a plastic member fixedly secured to the top of the driven spindle, the member having a lower, elongate cylindrical portion and an upper, outwardly extending flange defining a downwardly facing shoulder and an upwardly facing cam surface, and a substantially annular, plastic hub frictionally engaging the cylindrical portion of the plastic member and having an interior diameter slightly smaller than the external diameter of the plastic member cylindrical portion. The hub includes a slot extending the full height of the hub whereby assembly of the hub onto the plastic member causes the hub to open slightly so that the internal diameter of the hub corresponds to the external diameter of the cylindrical portion of the plastic member, thereby allowing for slippage between the hub and the plastic member as necessary. At least one of the plastic member and the plastic hub includes a lubricant therein to prevent occurrence of the stick slip phenomenon.

Tape recorder slip clutch

A cassette changer apparatus for use in a multiple cassette record and/or playback system. An input supply of magnetic tape cassettes is spaced from an output store, with a record/playback station disposed intermediate the input supply and output store. A fresh cassette is conveyed from the input supply to the record/playback station, and thence to the output store whereat an elevator normally loads the cassette into the output store. A cassette eject mechanism comprised of a discharge chute is positioned beneath the elevator. The chute is adapted to receive a conveyed cassette but the elevator is normally conditioned to intercept such a cassette and prevent it from reaching the chute. Priority control circuitry selectively displaces the elevator before a conveyed cassette is intercepted thereby, whereby the cassette is received by the chute, slides therealong and is ejected.

Cassette changer apparatus having priority eject

A cassette changer apparatus for use in a multiple cassette record and/or playback system. An input magazine stores a stack of cassettes, preferably in a vertical stack, each cassette housing magnetic tape therein. An output magazine is spaced from the input magazine and stores a stack of cassettes; and a record/playback station is disposed intermediate the input and output magazines. A fresh cassette is conveyed by an endless conveyor from the input magazine to the record/playback station, and thence to the output magazine whereat an elevator loads the cassette into the stack in the output magazine. A record/playback deck is pivotally driven at the record/playback station from a first position that is spaced from a cassette conveyed to the station to a second position that is in operative relation with respect to such a cassette so that a record and/or playback operation can be performed. Thereafter, the deck is pivoted back to its first position to permit the cassette to be unloaded and conveyed to the output magazine.
