A sewing machine having a device for manually changing a feed dog (), including the feed dog () and a feed-dog holder (). The feed-dog holder () is disposed in an arm bed () that is associated with the sewing machine, and the feed dog () is receivable in a clearance () of the feed-dog holder (). The feed dog () that is located in the clearance () has a support face () which may be disposed parallel with the surface of a sewn-product support which may contain a needle-hole plate () or be configured as a needle-hole plate (), the sewn-product support and/or the needle-hole plate () may at least partially be formed by the surface of the arm bed (), and the support face () may be received in an opening () of the needle-hole plate (). The feed dog () is fastenable in the clearance by a fastening element () or of a setting element () such that the support face () is alignable so as to be substantially parallel with the surface of the sewn-product support or of the needle-hole plate (). The fastening element () or the setting element () is releasably held in the feed-dog holder ().

The activation for a path and time related motion of a thread cutting and lead-in stitching unit () and the thread brake () occurs by a cam drive driven by the primary shaft () and a cam drum () arranged on the upper shaft (). This way, an absolute synchronization of the elements of the thread cutting and lead-in stitching unit (), the thread brake (), and the hook as well as the needle is ensured.

For the continuous drive of a hook of a sewing machine, two drive cams () alternately engage in the back of the hook. During the passing of the upper thread loop, the respective drive cam () on which the thread would get hung up is out of engagement. The hook is situated in a conical hook race guide and is held therein by magnets.

A method for cutting the lower and at least one upper thread for lead-in embroidering or lead-in sewing is performed with a device including thread catchers (-) connected with each other in a fixed manner and layered over top of each other, formed of sheet metal, as well as spring and thread tightening plates (and) arranged above and below the thread catchers, which move back and forth against a blade (), and a thread wiper unit. The device is exclusively operated by a drive moving back and forth and driving the thread cutting and lead-in stitching unit ().

A locking mechanism for a bobbin case () is provided with a locking lever () supported pivotally in the bobbin cover (). The locking lever is pivotal on a shaft (). A hook-shaped end () is formed at the locking lever (), which latches in the sleeve () in the hook and can hold the bobbin case () in the hook ().

A device for operating several sewing functions is provided with a single control disk with curved paths arranged peripherally and facially on the control disk for acting radially and axially. The control disk is driven by a stepper motor and allows individual or several functions to be executed during the rotary movement as well as temporarily stopping others.

An embroidery module () is provided that is attached (docked) to the base plate () of a sewing machine () and supplied with power and control commands from the machine electronics. A free space (), which permits the insertion of tubular work pieces around the free arm (), is created between the embroidery module () and a front end of the free arm (). The embroidery module (), with or without an embroidery hoop support (), can remain docked for all sewing, embroidery, and quilting work on the sewing machine ().

In an upright () of a sewing machine (), a thread spool holder () is mounted in a recess () so that it can pivot out of the recess (). On this holder, thread spool pins () are placed, as well as an arm (), on whose upper end thread guidance elements () are fixed. For use, the cover () which covers the thread spool holder () in the stowed state is opened, and the thread spool holder () is pivoted out from the recess ().

The hook () of a sewing machine () is mounted so that it can move on a hook carrier. Through a sliding movement of the hook carrier, the hook () is brought from its operating position into a bobbin case removal position. Through the sliding movement, the hook () with the bobbin case () is placed at or above the opening, which is created by the flap () in the lower arm (). In this way, the removal of the bobbin case () or the bobbin is made considerably easier.

An arrangement for changing bobbins in sewing and embroidery machines is arranged on the cover () on the lower arm of the sewing machine (). With a push-button () and a slide (), the bobbin case () with the bobbin () lying therein is released from the hook base () and made accessible to outside of the sewing machine () when the cover () is opened.

In the top transport device of a sewing machine, the top transport foot () moves in a vertical slot () in the arm (), with which the top transport foot () is driven. This arrangement enables the top transport foot () to be displaced upwards into the rest position, so that accessories can be fixed to the presser bar ().

An apparatus for embroidering surface-shaped sewing material includes an embroidery device which is connected, via an intermediate insertion of a distance adapter, to the column or free arm of a sewing machine. By inserting the distance adapter between the embroidery device and the sewing machine the distance between the embroidery device and the free arm or the column of the sewing machine is increased, which makes it possible to use an embroidery frame having a cross-sectional surface which is significantly greater than an embroidery frame which is able to be used if there was simply a direct connection between the embroidery device and the free arm or column of the sewing machine.

A driving apparatus for an oscillating catcher of a sewing machine includes a toothed pinion being eccentrically mounted on a driving shaft for the catcher for the sewing machine. A transmission device, having teeth, is guided in a back-and-forth movement by an oscillating crank drive, with the teeth of the transmission device engaging the tooth pinion on the driving shaft. By arranging the toothed driving gear eccentrically on the driving shaft of the catcher, it is possible to substantially increase the speed of the point of the catcher when it seizes the loop of the upper thread offered by the needle.

A method for embroidering tubular material and the use of an embroidering apparatus therewith, in which the embroidering apparatus includes an embroidering device which is attachable to a free-arm sewing machine. The embroidering device has an embroidering frame, which is horizontally displaceable above the free arm of the sewing machine by a first drive in the X-direction and by a second drive in the Y-direction. An intermediate space is formed, permitting the introduction of a tubular material between the embroidering device and the free arm of the sewing machine. By forming an intermediate space between the free arm and the embroidery device, it is becomes possible to clamp tubular textiles and the like, without obstruction, in an embroidery frame and to pull such materials across the free arm of the sewing machine in order to provide the material with embroideries.
