This disclosure generally discloses a tunnel-level fragmentation and reassembly capability configured to support tunnel-level fragmentation and reassembly of a packet being transported via a tunnel between a tunnel source node and a tunnel destination node. The tunnel-level fragmentation and reassembly capability may be configured to support tunnel-level fragmentation and reassembly of packets in a manner tending to prevent reassembly errors, that could cause malformed packets or packet drops at the tunnel destination nodes, due to multiple parallel tunnel contexts of the tunnel which may correspond to multiple parallel entry points into the tunnel at the tunnel source node. The tunnel-level fragmentation and reassembly capability may be configured to support tunnel-level fragmentation and reassembly of packets within various types of communication networks, for various types of tunnels, or the like.

The invention is directed to monitoring execution of software threads, particularly by detecting a lockup or stall in execution of a software thread and initiating a remedial action in response. Advantageously, some embodiments of the invention automatically detect a lockup or stall in execution of a software thread by periodically sampling information corresponding to the thread, and, in accordance with a determination made using the information, initiate an attempt to recover from such a condition in execution without the need for manual intervention.

The network node may include a fabric configured to route packets towards a destination. Furthermore, the network node may include an active card configured to establish at least one link to a destination node, generate a sequence number for each packet to be sent, and send a messaging packet including at least one sequence number from the active card to inactive cards over a communication channel on a data path in the fabric. A method for identifying faulty modules within telecommunication devices, such as ATM switches, involves generating and attaching verification codes, such as a CRC or checksum codes, to data packets at an upstream location determining the integrity of the verification codes at each of multiple downstream location within a telecommunication device; and signaling an error condition where a corrupted data packet has been detected. A verification code may be written to a field of a data packet which is not used while the packet is in transit through the telecommunication device.

Method and apparatus for providing integral cell payload integrity verification and detecting defective modules in telecommunication devices

The present invention provides method and system for identifying a faulty component in a group of components, the group comprising in a connected configuration at least a first component connected to a second component, and further connected to at least a third component. In an embodiment, the method comprises: (i) monitoring for at least one fault at a component connection interface; and (ii) upon detection of a fault, identifying the faulty component utilising information from the fault and at least one rule for identifying the faulty component. The rules are defined from at least one characteristic of the fault, such as location and frequency, and at least one characteristic of the configuration.

System and method for providing error analysis and correlation in a network element

A method for identifying faulty modules within telecommunication devices, such as ATM switches, involves generating and attaching verification codes, such as CRC or checksum codes, to data packets, such as ATM cells, at an upstream location, determining the integrity of the verification codes at each of multiple downstream location within a telecommunication device; and signaling an error condition where a corrupted data packet has been detected. A verification code may be written to a filed of a data packet which is not used while the ATM cell is in transit through the telecommunication device, thereby identifying a faulty module device without adversely affecting throughput.

A method for verifying the integrity of data payloads of ATM cells passing through a switching device involves computing a payload integrity verification code for the payload portion of an ATM cell. The payload integrity verification code may be generated according to any error detection or error correction scheme. Preferably, the payload integrity verification code is stored in a portion of the standard ATM cell header which is not used while the cell is passing through the switching device. Preferably the payload integrity verification code is stored in all, or a portion of, the virtual path identifier or virtual connection identifier fields. The invention allows for the immediate identification of cells having corrupted payload data. Different actions may be taken on the detection of errors in the ATM cell header and ATM cell payloads respectively.
