A golf club, particularly a putter, having a head which includes an elongated element affixed to a shell and a method of assembling the golf club. The elongated element includes two laterally spaced masses, a linking portion extending between the two laterally spaced masses and a generally planar front surface constituting a golf ball striking surface. The shell, which is adapted to have a shaft extending therefrom, includes a front portion having an opening for receiving and seating the elongated element, while leaving the generally planar front surface exposed.

Putter head

A putter having a head with golf ball-centering indicia. The ball-centering indicia include a curvilinear reference which is tangent to the edge formed between the upper surface of the head and the ball-striking surface, or to a parallel line proximate the edge. The curvilinear reference has a radius of curvature which the substantially equal to the nominal radius of a golf ball and is subtended, with reference to the center of curvature by a center angle less than 180.degree. and preferably about 90.degree.. The ball-centering indicia further include a rectilinear reference formed, for example, by a pair of parallel segments positioned symmetrically on both sides of the normal to the tangent point, extending along the direction of the aiming axis. A parallax correction reference can also be provided which enables the golfer to ensure that the head of the putter is properly horizontally positioned about the aiming axis.

Putter having a head with ball-centering indicia

A golf club and a method of assembling a golf club which includes a shaft having an assembly part for supporting a head of the club, and a head for attachment to the shaft, the head having an assembly part for engaging with the assembly part of the shaft. At the time of attachment of the head to the shaft, the head is selectively positionable at one of a plurality of angles. The present invention permits the golf club to be configured, e.g., as a function of the playing position of the golfer such that the head of the golf club is permitted to remain substantially flat with respect to the hitting surface.
