A converter () for operating an LED load is provided. The converter () comprises an actively switched power factor correction, PFC, circuitry (-), having a control circuitry (-) for controlling a switch () of the PFC circuitry (-). The control circuitry (-) is configured to control a switch-on timing of the switch () such that an output voltage (, V) of the PFC circuitry (-) is feedback-controlled in accordance with a nominal value (). In a discontinuous conduction mode, DCM, the control circuitry (-) is configured to control an actual value (, T) of the switch-on timing of the switch () in one or more switching cycles to be a time of a valley of a voltage across the switch () succeeding a nominal value (, T) of the switch-on timing of a control algorithm implemented by the control circuitry (-). The control circuitry (-) is further configured to control the actual value (, T) of the switch-on timing of the switch () in one or more subsequent switching cycles being subsequent to the one or more switching cycles to be a time of a valley of the voltage across the switch () preceding the nominal value (, T) of the switch-on timing. This reconciles valley switching and avoidance of visible light flicker.

PFC with valley controlled DCM for an LED load

The invention relates to a clocked flyback converter circuit for directly operating lighting means comprising: a transformer (), which has a primary winding (), which is coupled to a controllable switch (), and a secondary winding (), to which the lighting means () can be coupled; a control unit () for controlling the switch (); and means () for directly or indirectly sensing the current through the switch () in the switched-on state and for feeding a signal and reflecting said current to the control unit (). The control unit () is designed to switch off the switch () if the signal reflecting the current has reached a variable switch-off threshold (I), to change the switch-off threshold (I) in order to change the power transmitted by the flyback converter circuit (), and to reduce the switch-off threshold (I) for the current signal only down to a minimum value and to switch from operation in the limit mode to discontinuous operation in order to achieve a further reduction in the power transmitted by the flyback converter circuit () while the switch-off threshold (I) is fixed.

Clocked flyback converter circuit

The invention relates to a switching regulator for operating luminaires, comprising a control circuit (). The control circuit () is designed to operate, by triggering the switch () that is coupled to a coil, the switching regulator () in a limit mode of operation when the load generated by the luminaire () is so high that the resulting switching-off threshold exceeds a predefined minimum switching-off value, and operate the switching regulator in a discontinuous mode of operation at the minimum switching-off value when the load generated by the luminaire () is so low that the switching-off threshold in a limit mode of operation would lie below the predefined minimum switching-off value. The signal representing the current is fed to the control circuit () in both the limit mode of operation and the discontinuous mode of operation without being subjected to any external mean value generation.

The invention relates to an operating device () for operating lighting means, in particular LEDs, comprising: a potential-isolated clocked converter (), having a transformer (T), which has a primary winding (N) and a seconding winding (N), and having a controllable switch (M) arranged on the primary side, wherein the converter () can be supplied with a supply voltage converter (); means () for directly or indirectly sensing the output voltage (Vout); and a control unit (ST) for controlling the switch (M), wherein the secondary current (I) through the secondary winding (N) linearly drops, starting from a position value (Imax), which the switch (M) is switched off, wherein the control unit (ST) is designed to adaptively sense a discharge duration (Tdischarge) between a switch-off of the switch (M) and a subsequent drop in the secondary current () to zero in order to control the secondary current (I).

LED driver

The invention relates to an LED module (), comprising: connections () for an LED array (); a circuit () which is configured to constitute a load, preferably an effective power load, if during a starting phase a constant current or a constant voltage is applied to the LED module (), and which is configured not to constitute a load when the starting phase has finished, wherein the circuit () is designed to constitute a variable-current load which effects a change in the power consumption of the LED module () according to at least one predetermined protocol effected.

The invention relates to a method for activating at least one LED, which is supplied with a direct current voltage or a rectified alternating current voltage and which by means of a coil (L) and a first switch (S) clocked by a control/regulating unit (SR) provides a supply voltage for at least one LED, wherein when the first switch (S) is switched on the coil (L) temporarily stores energy that discharges via a diode (D) and at least one LED when the first switch (S) is switched off and wherein the control unit (SR) activates the first switch (S) by means of a dimming signal. The invention relates to an operating circuit for illuminants, in particular one or more LED sections (), comprising an actively clocked PFC circuit (), which can be supplied by an AC voltage (U) and optionally also a DC voltage (U) and the output voltage of which is directly or indirectly supplied through the illuminant () to a unit () for generating a PWM-modulated current.
