An applicator assembly includes at least one ampoule formed of a frangible material and containing liquid to be applied, a body having a proximal end, a distal end, and an interior portion defining a chamber adapted to receive the at least one ampoule, an application member attached to the distal end of the body, an actuator projecting from the body operable to fracture the at least one ampoule, a trench formed in a surface of the body, and a vent disposed through a surface of the trench.

A pressure relief device comprising a valve configured to resiliently deform in response to a predetermined pressure; and a sound dampener configured to dampen a sound generated by the valve when the valve resiliently deforms in response to the predetermined pressure.

Pressure relief in a respiratory assistance system

A heater wire including at least one extending component disposed thereon. The heater wire is positioned within a respiratory gas conduit. The heater wire may include a wire component and a groove that extends along a length of the heater wire. The heater wire may also include threads extending from an outer surface of the heater wire that faces away from the wire component. The threads may be woven or braided threads.

The disclosure is directed to an example of a device configured to be in fluid communication with an article. The device includes an element configured to contact the article to form a variable compression interface between the element and the article. The device also includes a seal disposed on the element and at the variable compression interface. The seal is configured to reduce an amount of unwanted fluid leakage at the variable compression interface. An example seal includes a filter media configured to trap unwanted particles attempting to pass through the variable compression interface. In one example, the variable compression interface can be included within a heat and moisture exchange (HME) unit.

A device for delivering diluted oxygen to a patient is provided. The device comprises a configurable oxygen delivery unit and multiple orifices in the configurable oxygen delivery unit. Each of the orifices has a size which pertains to a particular oxygen concentration. The configurable oxygen delivery unit is structured to enable selectively altering the oxygen concentration without requiring replacement of any components in a respiratory circuit.

Delivering diluted oxygen to a patient

A heated humidifier including an autofeed mechanism disposed within a humidifier chamber. The autofeed mechanism includes a housing, a float, a stem, and a sealing body. The housing defines an inlet, an outlet, a first chamber connected to the inlet, and a second chamber connected to the outlet and the first chamber by a channel. The float moves within the second chamber with the stem projecting therefrom and through the channel. The sealing body is within the first chamber and cooperates with the stem. In an open state, the sealing body is displaced from the channel to permit filling of the humidifier chamber. In a closed state, the sealing body seals the channel to prevent liquid flow to the outlet. A location of the sealing body relative to the channel is controlled by the float as a function of a humidifier chamber liquid level.

Heated humidified chamber with autofeed mechanism

A respiratory circuit inhalation apparatus is adapted to communicate a fluid stream between at least one air source and a patient and is formed with at least one central body portion defining an interior fluid stream communication passageway. An integrally formed dual function mouthpiece and effluent port projects from an end of the central body to communicate the fluid stream between the air source and a portion of the respiratory circuit that can lead to the patient or other components of the respiratory circuit. An integrally formed ambient fluid port is also formed as part of the inhalation apparatus that projects from the central body portion opposite to the dual function port. As with the other ports, the ambient fluid port also communicates the fluid stream between the interior fluid passageway and the at least one air source. The preferred inhalation apparatus also further includes a medication port that is formed about the central body portion and which includes a baffle or baffle portion that projects into and terminates within the interior fluid passageway. The terminus orifice and exit plane of the baffle preferably projects and terminates within the interior fluid passageway beyond the surface thereof so that liquids pooled within the passageway can be retained therein without draining into the medication port. Any or all of the various ports can be configured to be compatible for use with industry preferred respiratory circuit components and rigid and deformable 22 millimeter tubes.

Inhalation apparatus

An autofeed mechanism for controlling the flow and level of a fluid. The mechanism includes a body with an inlet chamber and a float chamber. A seat permits fluid communication between the two chambers. A float and a ball cooperate to permit, or deny, access to the seat. Fluid first enters the inlet and fills the chamber and then enters the float chamber by passing through the seat and exiting via the exit. Initially, the weight of the float keeps the ball away from the seat, but eventually the fluid level rises high enough that the action of the float on the ball decreases to a level that is overcome by the buoyant force of the ball and other fluidic forces resulting in the ball moving away from the ball support. Finally, the ball rises enough to seal against the seat thus stopping the flow of fluid.

Autofeed mechanism for heated humidifier chamber

An atomizing nebulizer for dispensing a substance or medicament is described. The nebulizer is formed with a reservoir base releasably secured to an effluent vent cap that together capture a diffuser and integral dispersing baffle that are further formed with an uptake lumen or channel terminating with a nozzle jet. The diffuser dispersing baffle is positioned relative to the jet nozzle to optimize atomization of any of a number of such substances so as to maximize disbursement of the substance. The reservoir base also incorporates a pressurized fluid-accelerating inlet tube terminated with a metering orifice that cooperates with the nozzle jet when the inlet tube is received within the diffuser uptake lumen or channel. When so received, the nozzle jet axially registers proximate and superior to the orifice to establish a vacuum space that is in fluid communication with a capillary interstice established between the walls of the exterior of the inlet tube and the confronting interior surface of the diffuser lumen or channel. When a pressurized fluid is communicated through the lumen, the orifice, and into the vacuum space towards the nozzle jet, a vacuum develops in the vacuum space that, in combination with the capillary action of the interstice, draws the fluid proximate to the orifice and disperses it into droplets that are then entrained into a fluid stream to be further atomized upon impact with the baffle and then dispensed.

Small volume nebulizer

A method of installing an anti-siphon flow restricter into a gas flow lumen of a nebulizer includes providing an anti-siphon flow restricter having a side wall conforming to a cross section of the gas flow lumen, first and second ends at opposite ends of the side wall and an elastomeric diaphragm closing the first end of the side wall. The anti-siphon flow restricter is axially inserted into the gas flow lumen with the diaphragm leading. The diaphragm is slit and allowed to self-bias closed.

Method of installing an anti-siphon flow restricter for a nebulizer

In a breathing circuit such as a ventilator circuit, a heating element is used to provide improved temperature characteristics of the inspired air or breathing gas. An heating element retainer is disclosed which is operative to provide a central location of the heating element within the breathing circuit lumen.

A nebulizer (10) has a housing (12,14) including an aerosol outlet (22) and a bottom wall (52) with a side wall (50) connected thereto defining a reservoir (54) for a liquid (106). A gas jet (58) extends along a longitudinal axis (60) of the housing (12,14) and through the bottom wall (52) of the housing (12,14), the gas jet (58) defining a gas flow lumen (66) having a gas orifice (64) at its distal end. A liquid nozzle (16) having a liquid orifice (102) at a distal end corresponding to the distal end of the gas jet (58) surrounds the gas jet (58). The liquid orifice (102) is spaced from the gas orifice (64) for nebulization of liquid (106) fed to the liquid orifice (102). A diaphragm (126) made of an elastomer has a slit (130) which is biased closed. Cooperating shoulders between the diaphragm (126) and the gas flow lumen (66) maintain the diaphragm (126) in the gas flow lumen (66) with the slit (130) transverse the length of the lumen.

Anti-siphon flow restricter for a nebulizer

A nebulizer (10) has a nebulizer top (12) defining an aerosol outlet (66) and a reservoir bottom (14) defining a liquid reservoir (21) and a threaded connection (38,68) between the reservoir bottom (14) and the nebulizer top (12). A nebulizing structure (24,46) within the nebulizer provides an aerosol to the aerosol outlet (66). A continuous flow adaptor (16) for the nebulizer has a side wall (90) with first and second open ends (94,100) defining a spacer interior. An orifice (116) in the side wall (90) of the adaptor (16) allows for fluid communication with the adaptor (16) interior from outside of the adaptor (16). A luer connector (118) is provided on the side wall (90) of the adaptor (16) for connecting the orifice (116) in fluid tight communication with a fluid supply. The adaptor (16) includes threads (92,98) proximate the first and second open ends (24,100) for cooperatively engaging the threaded portions (38,68) of the reservoir top (12) and reservoir bottom (14).
