A process for forming a continuous filament yarn having the surface tactile character of a spun yarn. The process includes passing the cohesive yarn structure through the interior of a rotating sleeve member disposed in surrounding relation to the cohesive yarn structure. The rotating sleeve member includes an abrasive inner surface of diameter greater than the cohesive yarn structure and is adapted to contact the exterior surface of the cohesive yarn structure such that at least a portion of the elongate filaments disposed at the exterior of the cohesive yarn structure are broken. Terminal ends of the broken filaments define an arrangement of outwardly projecting hairs at discrete locations disposed substantially around the circumference of the cohesive yarn structure. An apparatus for carrying out the process is also provided.

Treatment of filament yarns to provide spun-like characteristics and yarns and fabrics produced thereby

A pile fabric such as may be used in automotive and furniture upholstery and other applications which fabric incorporates a pile surface formed from variable height fibers. The pile is made up of a first group of fibers having a first height and at least a second group of fibers having a second height which is on average less than the height of the first group. A method of formation is also provided.

A process to produce a plyed holographic yarn in which the slit film is allowed to be pulled from its source rather than being driven by drive rolls. The slit film and at least one other yarn are plyed and textured in an air texturing jet.

Holographic air-jet textured yarn

A polyester multifilament synthetic yarn which has a low draw ratio and a bulk characteristic made by overfeeding the yarn in the range of 4-12% that provides a double plush fabric, when knit, that has a pleasant broken pattern look with at least a 25% increase in bulk. The yarn used is obtained by treating a low draw ratio polyester yarn in a hot relaxation and setting zone after drawing prior to take-up.

Method to produce bulked deep dyed fabric

Method to continuously merge two multifilament yarns supplied from bobbins on a creel by merging and entangling the two yarns in a commingling air jet and supplying directly to a warper to form a warp beam. The method includes feed rolls upstream and downstream of the air jets providing an overfeed of the yarns to the jet of about 2.3%.

Continuous process from interlacing to warping to provide a heather yarn

A method to provide a looped pile yarn having a high number of loops projecting therefrom. The yarn is produced by drawing and texturing a core and effect yarn with the effect yarn being supplied to the air texturing jet with a high overfeed in the range of 100-200%.

Method of produce loop pile yarn

A method and apparatus to texture synthetic yarn in which the pin heater used in the drawing step of the system is moved periodically to spread the wear on the surface thereof. The pin heaters are mounted on a bar which is slid sideways by a periodically actuated cam member.

Texturizing system and apparatus

A multi-ply continuous filament air textured yarn and method to produce same by combining a plurality of POY yarns in a nip and supplying them to a heated draw block to provide two stages of drawing. The drawn yarn is then heat set and supplied to an air nozzle to texture the yarn.

Multi-ply air textured yarn

Method and apparatus to produce a plied, air textured continuous filament yarn by severing the supply yarn upon the detection of a drop in tension. When the tension in the yarn being processed drops, the position of the running yarn will be detected by a photocell unit which will actuate a cutter upon such detection to sever the yarns being supplied to the air texturing machine. The method and apparatus provide that the drop in tension has to occur for a predetermined length of time or occur a multiplicity of times before the cutter is actuated.

An apparatus and process to produce a spun-like synthetic yarn which employs a filament loop breaker which is periodically and automatically opened to break the vacuum pressure to allow lint collected therein to be released and collected.

Method of forming spun-like synthetic yarn

A compact yarn distributor block mounted on the bottom of a yarn creel to direct yarn supplied from yarn packages on the creel to the point of use of a yarn processing machine, such as a texturing machine. The yarn outlet openings in the yarn distributor block are displaced vertically from one another so that the yarn from one outlet can be supplied without interference from yarn being supplied from another outlet.

An air texturing system for partially oriented yarn in which a draw block of aluminum or other suitable material is employed to provide two stages of drawing for the yarn to be textured. The draw block has an inlet offset from the outlet to provide for one stage of drawing between the inlet and outlet of the draw block.
