The present invention relates to a method of altering the relative proportions of protons, deuterons and tritons in a sample using a membrane. The membrane comprises a 2D material and an ionomer. The invention also relates to a method of making said membranes.

Graphene membrane

The present invention relates to a graphene-based or other 2-D material membrane which allows the passage of protons and deuterons and to a method of facilitating proton or deuteron permeation through such a membrane. Monocrystalline membranes made from mono- and few-layers of graphene, hBN, molybdenum disulfide (MoS2), and tungsten disulfide (WS2) etc. are disclosed. In effect, the protons or deuterons are charge carriers that pass through the graphene or other 2-D material membrane. This process can be contrasted with the passage of gaseous hydrogen. Hydrogen is an uncharged gaseous species which is diatomic. In other words, the gas is in molecular form when considering the normal barrier properties whereas in the case of the present invention, the species which is being transported through the membrane is a charged ion comprising a single atom. Membranes of the invention find use in a number of applications such as fuel cells.

This invention relates to barrier materials comprising reduced graphene oxide, methods of making said materials and their uses. The reduced graphene oxide is preferably formed from the reduction of graphene oxide by HI, HBr or ascorbic acid.

Reduced graphene oxide barrier materials

A plasmonic structure () comprising a layer of metal () in which the metal is selected from: a Group 8 to Group 11 transition metal, aluminum, germanium, antimony or bismuth, and a barrier layer () formed from a 2-D material disposed on a surface of the layer of metal (). The metal layer has a roughness that permits the propagation of running plasmons along the interface of the metal layer and the barrier layer.

Plasmonic structures and devices

This invention relates to uses of graphene oxide, and in particular graphene oxide on a porous support, and a membrane comprising these materials. This invention also relates to methods of dehydration, which include vapour phase separation and pervaporation. Pervaporation is a method of separating mixtures of liquids using a membrane. Pervaporation consists of two basic steps: permeation of the permeate through the membrane and evaporation of the permeate from the other side of the membrane. Pervaporation is a mild which can be used to separate components which would not survive the comparatively harsh conditions needed for distillation (high temp, and/or low pressure).

This application relates to graphene based heterostructures and methods of making graphene based heterostructures. The graphene heterostructures comprise: i) a first encapsulation layer; ii) a second encapsulation layer; and iii) a graphene layer. The heterostructures find application in electronic devices.

Structures and methods relating to graphene

This application relates to graphene based heterostructures and transistor devices comprising graphene. The hetero-structures comprise i) a first graphene layer; ii) a spacer layer and iii) a third graphene. The transistors comprise (i) an electrode, the electrode comprising a graphene layer, and (ii) an insulating barrier layer.

Transistor device and materials for making

The present invention relates to the novel material fluorographene (FG), methods of making fluorographene, and its applications in electronics and related fields. The fluorographene also finds use in improving the properties of composite materials by incorporating the fluorographene of the invention with one or more materials such as fluoropolymers (FP) and the like. Conventionally, FP inter-chain interactions are very weak but spread over the area of FG, FG is able to act as a very effective and compatible reinforcement.
