The present invention relates to an end structure for a bundle of optical fibres arranged in a hexagon which comprises more particularly a cylindrical alignment member having one end which is adjacent to the end to be connected and comprises three regular points adapted to be fitted in three similar points of an identical end structure. This alignment member is previously angularly oriented relative to the bundle of fibres arranged in a hexagon so that its points have a given position relative to the hexagon formed by the fibres.

A multichannel coupler for connecting a plurality of input fibers to a plurality of output fibers which comprises a mixing fiber coupled to the pluralities of fibers. This mixing fiber is cut along a transversal cut and the two parts thus obtained are secured end to end. At least one of the surfaces delimiting the cut is ground for having a better distribution of the transmitted light onto the output fibers.

The invention relates to a positioning ferrule for an optical fibre providing an adjustable connection between two fibres. The positioning ferrule according to the invention comprises detecting means for detecting the uncoupled radiation in the down-side fibre and therefore transmitted in the sheath of the latter. The process for adjusting a connector comprising said ferrule comprises producing a relative displacement of the axes of two fibres so that the detected radiation is minimum. The invention is applicable to long-distance optical telecommunications employing monomode optical fibres.

A brancher-mixer for optical fibres bundles enabling the luminous energy emanating from a transmitting bundle to be divided between two receiving bundles and essentially consisting of two monofibres laterally coupled at one of their ends to divide the luminous flux emanating from the transmitting bundle. The invention provides a multi-channel optical coupler forming a single component which can be attached to the front panel of an equipment. A single central U-shaped optical fibre acts as a mixer waveguide. The terminal faces of this central waveguide are coplanar and optically connected to the single fibres or to the bunches of fibres, which constitute the incoming and outgoing channels, by two sets of single intermediate mixer fibres. A positioning terminal for an optical fibre or a bundle of optical fibres in which the position of the fibre or bundle is defined relatively to a right circular cylindrical external surface. The centering of the fiber or bundle of the axis of the external surface is achieved by compressing a deformable internal cylindrical body arranged in a coaxial hole and traversed by the fibre or bundle through an axial bore. In the case of a bundle, a compact hexagonal arrangement of the individual fibres ends is thus obtained, and by giving to the coaxial hole an hexagonal cross section, the orientation of the hexagonal arrangement can be marked on the terminal external surface. Methods for manufacturing such a terminal and for arranging it at the end of a fibre or bundle are also described.

The present invention relates to a plug which makes it possible with the help of an interconnecting device to position and connect in pairs optical fibres pertaining to optical cables. The positioning of each optical fibre is achieved by a three-elements set of cylindrical rods 21 arranged in the bushing of the plug. Each rod of the three-elements set has two generatrices in contact with its two neighbors, and one generatrix in contact with the introduced optical fibre. A hardenable bonding medium is introduced for cementing together said bushing, said rods and said optical fibre.
