The present invention relates to oil-extended styrenic block copolymer compositions that include a thermoplastic polymer, such as polystyrene, and a styrenic block copolymer, especially a linear styrene-butadiene-styrene triblock copolymer, with a styrene content less than 23 percent by weight, based upon total composition weight. The compositions yield very thin polymeric films with satisfactory physical properties.

Oil-extended, low styrene content styrene-butadiene-styrene triblock copolymer compositions and articles fabricated therefrom

A composition of matter that may be used to make transparent, substantially gel-free polymeric films includes at least a styrenic block copolymer and a thermoplastic resin other than the styrenic block copolymer. The styrenic block copolymer (e.g. S-I-B-S) has four distinct and sequential blocks: a first styrenic block (S), a first diene block (e.g. isoprene or I), a second diene block that differs from the first diene block (e.g. butadiene or B) and a second styrenic block (S). The styrenic block copolymer desirably lacks any random diene block (e.g. a random isoprene/butadiene block). The styrenic block copolymer also desirably lacks any significant percentage of a triblock copolymer (S-I-B). The composition of matter may also include an extender material such as white mineral oil. The compositions may be used to make mono-layer or multi-layer cast or blown films.

The invention is a thermoformable polymer blend omprising: A) from 9 to 90 parts by weight of a monovinylidene aromatic polymer or an impact modified monovinylidene aromatic polymer, comprising from 1 to 25 weight percent of a rubber and 75 to 99 weight percent of a monovinylidene aromatic polymer matrix having a weight average molecular weight (M.sub.w) from 50,000 to 400,000, said weight percents being based on the total weight of said impact modified, monovinylidene aromatic polymer; B) from 9 to 90 parts by weight on an olefin polymer, selected from the group consisting of homopolymers of ethylene or propylene and copolymers of ethylene with one or more C.sub.4-8 alpha-olefins; and C) from 1 to 20 parts by weight of a compatibilizing polymer comprising a styrene-isoprene-styrene triblock copolymer having a weight average molecular weight of from about 50,000 to about 110,000 Daltons wherein the styrene contained in the styrene blocks is from about 25 to 50 weight percent of the total polymer and the sum of A), B) and C) is 100 parts.

Thermoformable, chemical resistant polymer blends

The method of the present invention produces a porous, electrolyte permeable polytetrafluoroethylene diaphragm with a thickness of about 5 to about 100 mils and an average pore size of about 0.1 to about 100 microns. This diaphragm is suitable for use in an electrolytic diaphragm cell adapted to electrolytically form chlorine and an alkali metal hydroxide from an aqueous alkali chloride solution.
